It's definitely a dilemma.
You would like to test it out, but it is also easy to fall into "why should we change this working deal" after you move in.

I think a lot has to do with the age of the couple. The younger they are, the less likely to move in first.

I can't stand it when issues between two individuals are linked to historical data or a common occurance; like every relationship is the same. That's why I am very stand-offish with people offering relationship advice. I can't take people like Dr. Phil seriously. As far as living together previous to being married, I think that it is important to do that. You get to see how you will react being with and seeing the same person the majority of your day. It really depends on how ya mesh together.
