Taxes blow. Every time you try and get ahead the man smacks you back down with more and more taxes.

A Taxi is a type of public transportation for a single passenger, or small group of passengers.

I guess they have several in the big towns...er cities.

<---- Used to drive a cab in NJ (more of a car service)
<----- NOT from the middle east.

Here's the worst thing about that.

I have myself, 10 bags of filthy laundry, my four shithead kids, we're taking a trip 1/2 mile away (minimum fare), you have to pick us up in the ghetto, deal with how we fucking hate you, drop us off and get paid in quarters. No tip.

The worst thing about taxis is that I never get the fucking Cash Cab.

At least if you get the Cash Cab, you get a "free" ride after you finish signing their waivers.

(Of course, I am cheaper-than-cheap, so I take the subway. Cabs cost too much! And they don't take plastic ... and even if they did, I wouldn't hand over my card to someone I'd never met before.)

oh, TAXIS.

The only 2 constants in life: death and taxis.

Mikey would only get Cash Cab if Ken Ober was driving.

I hate taking cabs in NJ. Truly, they are more of a car service than anything else. And, depending on the location, the drivers often have to wait for a full car before they can start going anywhere, which means you could end up in the same car as a smelly pervert who will then know where you live. (Yes, the passengers really suck a lot worse than the cabs themselves.)

Back in the day when I didn't have a car, I would walk to wherever I needed to be no matter how far away it was. Even a mile or two. I had a big, collapsible metal shopping cart (that I bought at C.H. Martin for $15) that would hold a mega-bag of laundry or several good-sized bags of groceries. Made it sooo much easier and you make up $15 a lot faster than cab fare!

So you never use them? How do you pay with credit cards without giving them to anyone?

Perhaps I should re-qualify that:

I would prefer not to hand my credit card over to some shady-looking dude in a car who just writes my card number down on a pad of paper and now knows where I live.

I use the credit card all the time, but at a lot of stores you don't have to hand the card over to the cashier anymore because of the smart-pad card readers on the customer-side of the checkout counter. (This is a beautiful thing.)

I used to be one of the Jersey people that was too unfamiliar with the city and just shelled out the money for a cab. Once I learned the subway (anyone interested can pm me for info...$19.95 for a map and a patented revolutionary scientific breakdown of subway use... the map's the expense really b/c it's color)- woohoo! There should be a subway under everywhere.

I'm still unfamiliar with the City, but I take the subway anyway. I have 3 lines that I am 100% comfortable using, because they're the ones I take most often - one on the East Side, one on the West Side and one that runs across town - but I've learned enough about the subway system that I can get pretty much everywhere I want to go.

I still don't know the buses, though.

just spent some time in the city, caught cabs in midtown, bronx, and brooklyn, never had an issue and knew enough geography to not get the run around. I had all my points of interest by street cross sections....

All the cabbys were good, Liked the towncars more, and used them whenever I had the chance.

Act now and I'll throw in a fantastic midtown comedy interview for only $25 per person.
