....Books that is. Most people I know are regular readers and get into books. Quite honestly I can get into them. I think it's trauma from summer reading in school that turned me off to it. Once in a while I will read books of my interest like Kurt Cobain: Heavier Than Heaven, Jimi Hendrix Biography, John Lennon memoirs, and a few others. When I hear a reference to Jack Karouac, Bukowski or any well revered literary figure, I usually make this face:

I guess I feel like everyone's a reader but me. Oh well, it don't make me a bad person... just sayin'.

It seems to me that you read the topics you are interested in and there is nothing wrong with that. To me i can get into a bunch of things but wouldnt read a book on Maya Angelou or Woodrow Wilson because i have no interest.

You should read what you are interested in and then branch it out to fringe elements of what you like. So if you like John Lennon Memoirs is it because of the music? The time period? The subject? So if its the time period find books written around that time period or about that time period.

I used to read all the time as a kid and now I can't do it. I think it's that I get too fidgety and/or distracted so I can't concentrate.

That makes a lot of sense. You're right, the life and music of John Lennon interests me and brought me to that book. I guess you could say if I am going to read something, I'll head right for a biography/autobiography. I guess if I decide to branch out, what your saying about finding books written around a similar topic (time period, music, etc.)

can you spell that would help

Do you mean:

Can you spell? That would help.

Attributed to Lao-tzu (c 604-c 531 bc), founder of Taoism.

A journey of a thousand miles began with a single step.

To say you can't read assumes failure. Pick up a book and try to
read NOW. Then you can start a thread that says I can read. I look forward to that one. I go through periods where I read less. I used to read to get to sleep at night but that became a pain in the ass when I had to wear reading glasses and reading in bed with glasses is a pain in the ass. But you get back to it especially on vacation. Most books are so much better then the movies that are based on them. that is inspiration enough for alot of stuffI read.

Come on get to it i want to see that I Can Read thread soon.

I suppose, but I will read books like the ones I mentioned above, but I can't bring myself to pick up a novel. I read all day long (posts, reports and work crap).

My attention span is shot. I spend it on Video Games, Beer, and RonFez.net of course.

I guess after reading most of the day, it's the last thing I want to do when I don't have to.

Let us never speak of this again.

--------------------------

I tend to go in cycles. I've been on a long one lately. I think b/c my brain hurts... once it's better I'll read more gooder.

I LOVE TO READ - but I don't think it is for everybody. Just like I can't stand video games. Rhino never reads a book, yet he knows all of the this useless crap, I don't know where he gets it....probably this msg board.

I like to read fiction to leave my world and enter into someone else's, forget my problems. I don't very much like to read non-fiction, but I do, just to expand my knowledge. It takes me a lot longer to read those books.

I have to read to get to sleep...

Everyone is different...I know A LOT of people who DO NOT read, so don't feel alone. If you want to get into reading books, I would suggest reading in the bathroom while you are waiting to drop a turd.
