View Full Version : I want the limited 10th anniversary 'Big Lebowski'

I really enjoyed the movie The Big Lebowski when I was in college.

As my introduction to the Coen brothers' funhouse-mirror sense of humor, it served well.

Anyway, I received an Amazon.com e-mail a few weeks ago advertising the "Limited 10th Anniversary Edition" of The Big Lebowski.

I want this edition for no other reason than the packaging.

It comes in a bowling ball. (http://www.amazon.com/Big-Lebowski-10th-Anniversary-Limited/dp/B001AEF6CW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1221148205&sr=8-1)

Needless to say, the nerd-part of my brain thinks this is fucking awesome.

I think I'm the only person (that I know of) who hasn't seen the movie. But it's rather cheap, I may buy this.

I think that this is (at least) the third re-packaging of the masterpiece.

I bought the first issue.

Are you going to keep the bowling ball alongside your other DVDs?

Seems cumbersome...

FYI, like the last re-release, there's nothing of substance added to actually watch.

This was a staple of my circle's college viewing for several months.

It's also why we started bowling on a regular basis.

But, we were impressionable and really geeky 20-somethings at the time, so it may not be the same for you.

I really hope you enjoy it! Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi work really well together in it. And John Turturro has one of the squirmiest scenes in all film history. You'll never look at purple spandex the same way again.

Thanks!

I love limited edition releases like this. My favorite so far is my Evil Dead 2 with the necronomicon.

I don't have a copy, period, so why not buy a decent copy with the potential to have some kitch value.

Keep in mind that it's not the movie or the extras that attracts me.

It's the packaging. I think it's cool.

(Yes, for things I really like, I am of similar ilk to those who may have purchased the editions of Evil Dead with the "skin" cover and who pre-ordered the super-deluxe editions of the Lord of the Rings films because they came with bookends, statues of Gollum or other "cool" things.)

I'm also a sucker for that frilly nonsensical shit. Which why I also have the LE Blade Runner (with the briefcase, 4 disc speical, a silver unicorn, an animated cel and a few other things).

Still no blu-ray, though.

But I don't have a blu-ray player, so, for me, with the movie-player equipment I have right now, it's a moot point.

I can't find my original copy so I may pick this up...or just download it

I know blu-ray is the shit, but not sure it's necessary for this flick. I like the way it looks now...low-tech like the dude.

We can put it on the mantle above the fireplace.

(BTW, I've never seen the movie either.)

I guess i am the only one who thought this movie wasn't anything special.

You'd understand the reference if you'd seen the movie. Now you rooned it.

OH WELL.

Actually, you're not the only one who thinks this movie is "meh" ... I remember there being a bunch of other folks on the board who're not crazy about it. You just happen to be the only person in this thread who thinks that way.

For me, it's not just the movie, it's the time in my life that I associate with it, so those things combine and make the movie more than it is. Which is an offbeat, rather weird and very nonsensical film that's attained something of a cult status among a lot of people.

Yeah, I still have the original too. Third repackaging of the movie, and there STILL isn't an anamorphic transfer of Raising Arizona on DVD in the US yet.

I do like the scenes between Goodman and Buscemi though.

There is a fantastic article about The Big Lebowski in the latest (?) issue of Rolling Stone. I don't own the DVD, so I think I'm gonna pick this one up.

Apparently not.

I'm not usually into extras on DVD's ... I mean, I like "making of" featurettes and stuff like that, but I don't always have the patience for directors' commentary tracks and stuff like that.

But it comes in a (plastic) bowling ball case ... that's the only "cool" thing about it.

I'll be going to the Bowling Jam on Sunday at Lucky Strike, but not the Movie/music on Saturday at Irving Plaza. I'll probably be busting out my Walter Gear for the bowling.
