I'm baby sitting my nephew (4) and niece (11 months), who is also my goddaughter, and I have them for the whole day, which isn't anything I haven't done before, but I've never had her first thing in the morning, which means it's the first time I had to put her hair up in the hair tie thing. And goddammit if Ron wasn't %100 right, she looks ridiculous. Her mom can do it perfectly with seemingly no effort, it took me like ten minutes and it looks like a retard did it. Any other gents out there can relate?

No, I have two boys and would have sold either as a baby if they were female.

I have been a stay at home Dad for almost 2 years now.

I still can not do anything with my daughter's hair aside from a badly made ponytail.

Ron is absolutely right on this.

Sounds like you need this book by Klutz Press:

(No lie, it was my DAD who taught me how to braid the My Little Pony's tail and not my mom. In fact, using this book and a slightly more advanced companion book was the only way my mother learned how to do her own hair.)

My dad was basically a stay at home dad and I remember him always telling me my hair looked "like a farmer" and he would brush my hair so hard that he would dig into my scalp and constantly be pulling my hair out. Ouch.

My mother's hair brushing technique was similar to that.

So was my grandmother's.

I learned how to brush my own hair very quickly after enduring that.

And people wonder why I have short hair to this day!

Okay, so I can't do my daughters' hair, but my wife is not going to be able to teach them how to shoot a basketball, play soccer, play pool, and a number of things.

Just because I'm inept at one aspect of child rearing doesn't mean that I'm inept completely.

I get that complaint too. I just tell my daughter to brush her hair so I don't have to do it myself. She's pretty good about it.

Seeing as I was held out as an example of a father who can't do shit with his daughters' hair, I have to concur as well.

Why is that when your own flowing locks are well kept?

I have to wait until my daughter has enough hair to form an opinion, but I do see disaster in the future.

Look, as long as the kids are clean, well-fed and happy, does it reallly matter that their hair isn't done perfectly????

I always had short hair as a kid because my mother was (and still is) inept at hairstyling and short hair was easy-care. This is not just a guy thing.

Besides, if you can get the little buggers to sit still long enough to not only brush/comb but also braid their hair, you're better than my mother ever was. (I managed this with my sister when she was a small child. It was also my responsibility to ensure that she had bathed and washed her hair. Woe to my father once I went away to college!)
