I felt like crying on saturday morning when I saw the headline even though I wasn't even sure he was still alive. The guy was honestly successful in 3-4 avenues in life almost independent of each other, acting, racing, business and charity. Everything he touched turned to gold.

What they may be discussing here is that in the Senate, you effectively have to have 60 votes to get anything passed, because you have to have that many votes to invoke cloture and force a vote. Otherwise, you can hang it up in debate indefinitely.

Many lawyers are not good at debating. Trial lawyers can do very well, but other than that, most lawyers don't have a need to be good at debate.
