i gotta get your definition of idiot cause i'm not 100% certain you're using it properly.
in a debate you are asked to follow certain guidelines... such as answering the moderators questions...which are meant to maintain an even playing field.
whenever the questions veered away from the talking points Palin had been extensively coached on, she stated that she would not directly answer the question, but would instead focus on another issue or aspect.
the inability to improvise and use your own knowledge and common sense to answer a question directly equals idiocy if you are running for top-level public office.
but hey, that's just my opinion. :bye:
So, did Palin become the V.P. candidate to make friends?

i sorta agree......may be out of context...her statement may have meant, "you might not like my answer, but my answer is......"
Not really. It was in response to a statement that she wasn't answering the questions posed.

i remember in 2004 both Kerry and Bush each did that at least two times during debates. does that make them both idiots? im pissed i have to include Bush in this example because the man is clearly an idiot, but still. the inability to improvise makes you an unskilled orator, poor actor and showcases an inability to think on your feet. none of that makes you an idiot. but hey, thats just my opinion. no wave from me

So thank god as VP or president she'd never have to think on her feet. We wouldn't want that from a world leader.

Honestly HHH....even Hottub admitted defeat for McCain/Palin tonight. This shit is over.

you do raise a solid point there but there arent really a lot of times when world leaders "think on their feet". most moves are carefully planned and orchastrated through advisors and such. debates are one of those few times when you really need to showcase that "think on your feet" ability.

I'm not sure I agree with that. On a day to day basis, sure, but in a time of crisis, it's an entirely different animal. One of the commentators on CNN brought up 9/11 and the fact that Bush was being flown from place to place and Cheney had to deal with the the authority for shooting down planes still in the sky. I think you have to evaluate a VP from the worst case scenario. God forbid it happens, but you do need to keep it in mind.

Agreed.
And we shouldnt undermine the importance of the vp....i mean, after all, the vp has been running the country for the last 8 years.
There was an actual human moment in this debate and it was when Senator Biden mentioned his family and his time as a single parent. Here it is:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pC1W1_sTgFE&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pC1W1_sTgFE&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This was a genuine moment that Palin could have humanized herself by talking about her family and the difficulties a large family, the stresses of balancing work & life and even her youngest child.
Instead....talking point....MAVERICK!
Just stop Governor Palin, you're embarrassing yourself.

absolutely, it does need to be kept in mind but it's really not essential. 9/11 is a serious extreme example, things like that don't happen everyday. as i was typing my last post 9/11 was one of the only things that popped into my head in terms of other instances of thinking on your feet. one other was when meeting with other world leaders behind closed doors.
even with a situation like 9/11, where every second mattered, i'd still reason to say Cheney has a couple minutes to really start making decisions. if Palin or Biden had several minutes to think about every question then they would both give better answers.

Wow....you hit it right on the head.
The cold sow didnt even show the slightest empathy for Biden's story.
She should have pulled out the retard-baby card.
Also Biden did a tremendous job of making the debate about Obama vs. McCain, while Palin tried to save herself. I simply don't understand that line of approach in a VP debate. Whenever Palin attacked it didn't make sense...as we didn't know her point of view, while we absolutely knew Biden's point-of-view. Here was a tremendous moment for him:

Honestly, in retrospect, Biden did exactly what he had to do tonight and did it well. And here is the thing...Joe Biden will almost always fuck up with some gaffe...but the tightened time limits of the debate actually favored Biden, rather than Governor Palin. Biden was forced to be tighter in his answer and didn't press...while she couldn't demonstrate in 90 seconds-2 minutes that she knew her shit.

But that was great stuff from Biden. He took on McCain in a big way and didn't come off as condescending toward Palin at all.
