I wish I could sing

I wouldn't make anyone's ears bleed, I can carry a tune but I'm a far cry from making American Idol.

So if you could have ONE skill/gift what would it be?

99 percent of "singing" is confidence.
The other 1 percent is style.

When people are alone in their car, they can hit any note with power and feeling. The minute they're in front other people (or even next to another car at a red light) their voice cracks, they lose their range, pitch is off, dull timbre, etc etc.

If you really want it, take vocal lessons. My uncle couldn't carry a tune at all until he started taking voice lessons about twelve years ago. He recently sang for the Pop with his church's choir at the Vatican. There's not such thing as being tone deaf, and while you won't turn into Otis Redding, with enough dedication, you can learn to sing quite well.

To be honest, I think about stuff life this all the time. I'm really good at math, but I would trade that in a second if I could sing/play guitar/play piano really well (as in being truly exceptional at it, not just doing it adequately), being fluent in several foreign languages, or being a professional athlete. Whichever one I want to most varies from day to day. Ask me today and I'd probably say I'd want to be a pitcher because the playoffs are on; ask me in 3 months and I'd tell you I want to play piano and sing like Michael Feinstein.

I share the same wish as you....that is, to be a really good singer.

I have found myself wishing to be able to sing over winning the lotto, b/c i feel with a great singing voice, i'd be able to make that money anyway.....and all that comes with that.

Singing is a beautiful thing....everyone should do it, no matter how bad you may think you sound, but those blessed with the gift of a beautiful voice owe it the rest of us to share it.

I always wished I had learned to play a musical instrument, especially the piano or guitar. Somehow the lessons just never fit into the schedule...but I can air guitar/fret'sync like a beast! (ugh)

Piano is the shiz.
I can play a ton of instruments. And I can sing. I know thousands of songs in their entirety. But one thing I can't do is play piano. I regret that I never learned. It's, easily, the most "complete" instrument we have. It really is capable of covering all grounds (musically) and I wish I'd forced myself when I was younger to master the keyboard.

Playing the piano is definitely on my bucket-list.

I agree 100% re completeness of the piano. But i think, of all the instruments, it is one of the easiest in terms of learning music theory. Because the notes are layed out linearly (lowest note to left highest note to right) one can learn to see the music on that kind of scale....whereas a string instrument or woodwind differs in that regard.

Dont get me wrong...i am by no means a pianist, but i think that is due more to the lack of time i put into playin it then the difficulty of the instrument itself.

That IS a great feeling... What I want to do is play music with other people, not really even to play OUT, I crave being productive with my creativity. I know I can do it because I have just for fun with musician friends, but I would want to do something more serious.
