View Full Version : Serious Cigar Smokers?

I am curious how many serious cigar smokers there are on ronfez.net.

How often do you smoke a cigar?

Tall_James

Either when I'm on a golf course or when I want to piss off my wife.

I used to smoke them more frequently, but only smoke them a few times a year now.

I probably smoke a full size cigar like once a month or so now. I usually have thos Al Capone things in my glove compartment and smoke cloves a few times a week.

But I never take cigar, clove or cigarette smoke into my lungs. So I guess I'm a fake smoker in that respect.

April~October 3~5 a week, once it gets too cold out more like 1 a week. Maybe if I moved south for the winter that would help, but Green Bay is too cold and indoors isn't an option.

Two a week, sometimes three. However, I've been going to a lot of weddings recently so a little more over the past couple of months.

I used to smoke high class Swisher Sweets now and again. My friend had some good ones once, but rather than spoil that good tobacco by setting it on fire, I chewed it like a plug o' chaw. I'm very sophisticated.

I try to smoke at least 3-5 a week. Generally while walking the dogs in central park. I have two pit bulls so I get a lot of mean looks while walking them and smoking a nice Cigar.

My humidor is stocked with:

Oliva Series V - Double Robusto
Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur Epicure - Robusto
Random Nub's made by Oliva
A few Padron 1926's series 9 ( only for a special occasion)
Some Gurkahs Maduro <--- not the greatest quality
And a few Random Macanudo's

Everyday smoke is definitely a Series V or a Epicure.... Wonderful cigars....

Anyway my humidor is right about capacity right now with some Gurkhas, Perdomo, 5 Vegas, and Indian Tabac. I just ordered some more Gurkhas (love them things) so it'll be a cigar weekend so I can make room for them. Other than that I smoke about one a week.

I enjoy smoking cigars, but the things that hold me back the most are limited disposable income and lack of knowledge.

The best I have purchased "in bulk" are some La Corona Tubos, which are really smooth. Otherwise I stop at J.R. Cigars in NC a couple of times a year and will pick up a sampler, often after talking to a member of the staff there.

I smoke a cigar 3-6 times a week I'd say, as long as my humi is stocked.

Right now I'm really into these:

http://www.cigarjack.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/perdomo-habano-corjo-torpedo-cigar-1.jpg

Also 5 Vegas Classic, RP Vintage 90/92, RP Fusion, CAO Brallizia, etc.

I like a fat ring gauge and a short length. Toro, Gordo, etc.

I have no trouble getting Cubans here in Ireland, but I also have a drink problem so all the money I have goes to booze and the rest I spend on cigarettes and half-coronas.

It must be great being sober and having two radio shows to enjoy the best cigars, but my priorities are different.

Two per round when golfing

When not playing one a weekend when the weather is okay

And my humidor is stocked with whatever my middle income rent can afford. Sadly that means its a point of pride to keep 5-8 in there at all times.

Ok so a lot of you saw a few times a week.

If you smoke 4 a week thats 208 a year. And if you get some cigars at 5 dollars average that $1,040 a year. That's not terribly a lot but quite a bit.

Plus whatever you spend on drinking. Wow, that would be a lot of extra dough to play with.

I smoke about 2 a day. I am hoping it will end my pointless life faster than if I did not smoke.

I like a larger ring guage, they smoke cooler. As for the other men who say their smoking relaxes in the cooler weather, that is my favorite time. Sit in the back yard, glass of single malt scotch, smoking. Chopping wood? Break out a good smoke! If not, find a nice smoke house on Long Island or in New York. There are quite a few good ones. TV's, drinks, attractive women servers, and like minded civilized people enjoying a natural treat.

Boveda-Direct (http://www.boveda-direct.com/)

Although 70% relative humidity is a good average for all cigars, studies show that certain cigars are best and reveal their peak taste and character when equilibrated and stored at a specific humidity level between 60% RH and 72% RH—as dictated by the characteristics of the cigar’s blend and primarily the cigar’s wrapper. Cuban cigars are best at 60-65% RH; cigars with a Cameroon wrapper are best at 70-72%; Nicaragua, 68-70%; cigars with a Dominican wrapper, such as the Fuente Fuente OpusX are best at 60-65%; cigars with a Connecticut Shade wrapper will not be affected between 65-72% RH.

I would try it but my work here uses sonicwall. I could use a circ. site but its just takes too long.

And when something is blocked of this related matter it says it blocked due to "Alcohol/tobacco"

Doing a search on aging tobacco with alcohol woll really set it off.

All seriuosness i would say use a cheaper cigar to make it taste like that.

Or just pick up a makers mark.

Hate to break it to you, but that cigar is fake. You can tell just looking at the wrapper, that kind of wrapper would never be on a cohiba. Plus the band is not correct, there should be five rows of white dots. The cap also looks off. But hey, enjoy it :).

In terms of cigars/week I usually smoke about 7-20 depending on mood, weather, et cetera.

Does anyone "age" their cigars with brandy? Someone asked me over the weekend if I did and I told them that I didn't.

Most people use Cognac if they are going to infuse their cigars with anything, but brandy isn't uncommon. Naturally, Cognac is actually a specific type of brandy made in the Cognac region of France. Most "true" cigar smokers will shun people who add any other flavor to their cigar. The easiest way to do it is to put some Cognac or Brandy into your humidity device in your humidor.

The rows are actually 5 by the cohiba sign. Not right above. That takes up some of the room for the other two rows..

Hey, I could be wrong, but look at the wrapper, there is a huge vein on it. Quality control may not be what it was in Cuba, but that would never pass inspection. Plus there is only a single cap on the cigar. Cohiba uses a triple cap. The real band (http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Counterfeits/Genuine_Page/0,3392,29,00.html) has three rows of dots above the cohiba logo, the third one is cut off. The pictures you supplied are fake too. There is no 2008 limited edition from Cohiba (http://inluminocomms.blogspot.com/2008/09/2008-habanos-limited-editions.html), but bottom line, if you enjoy the cigar, who cares?

The one sticker on the top of the box and the habanos sticker on this bos are the same on mine.

Sorry man, it defiantly is. There was no cohiba 2008 LE, only the ones I linked. There are no holograms on real habanos boxes. There is a huge counterfeit market. Habanos does not sell anything in a glass top box.

The seal is the same, that is very easy to replicate, but the red stamp on your box is incorrect.

Usually enjoy 3-4 on the weekend and depending on how shitty a day it was in the office might enjoy a couple more during the week.

Lately have been on a bit of an R&J kick. The Cedros Deluxe No. 1 is a beautiful cigar and quite mellow. Something more aggressive and goes well with a dark rum is their Escudo. Not sure what the current situation is with getting Cubans into the US is but if you can I'd suggest either of these as a great smoke.

I offered one up as a MPW prize...don't know if they think the idea is lame or not...but I will definitely send them the cigar (in a container with humidification sheet)...

the two Cuban Cohiba cigars are my favorites...only a Cuban Monte Cristo tops it in my book...in fact...I'd put a monte cristo white #2 above an Opus X in my book (a fourth the price no less)...

Hate to bust your balls, but the cohiba esplendido is perhaps the most counterfietied (sp) cigar out there. and, by the looks on your wrapper, you probably have a fake. cubans, if im correct do not have veins in their wrappers.

cubans also do not come in cellophane sleeves.

that cigar looks shopped. i can tell from some of the wrapper and from seeing quite a few cigars in my time...

i was in the DR and i got taken for a box of cohiba esplendidos that had all the "made in cuba" shit on it- from the insignia burnt into the box to even the offical seal on the box.

was until i busted the box open to pull the bands off did i realize what the deal was. its all good though, cause they were still awesome smokes.

you were lucky...I had a fake cuban cohiba that tasted, smelled, and burned like crap...only way I knew it was a fake...

I've had the opportunity to smoke a lot of cuban cigars and I still say the best cigar (although expensive) that I've ever smoked is a Dominican (I think) Montecristo White #2...wish I could afford to make it my regular smoke...

Smoke at least one a day, usually two. Prefer Fuente or Torano. I have a supply of Opus and Anejo for special occasions. 3 desk top humidors, one 150 quart igloo cooler and one 50 quart igloo cooler all full. Keep them at 65 rh since I like mine a little dryer than most.
