I've never been good with rejection either (funny, because I feel it all the time), but I notice a lot of people giving advice like, "stick to hookers or porn" and I was wondering if you really think someone can get to the point when they can <I>never</I> feel real affection again, like they can't attain it because they don't deserve it, simply because their head is too messed up from rejection and constant reenforcement of a horrible self image, that they can't function normally in society and are forced to be alone for the rest of their miserable lives? what do you think?

No one likes to be rejected but no person is loved or even liked by all.

You ask if someone can lose the capacity to feel affection due to countless rejection.

Sometimes the fear of rejection makes people hesitatnt to allow themselves to feel. They become paralyzed with worry that they will be spurned (and made to feel worthless) so they prevent themselves from feeling love or other close emotion.

Unfortunately many people have problems developing and maintaining a positive self-concept. That's definitely an area that can be sucessfully addressed. And the better the self-concept, the better a person is able to function comfortably. This allows them to express their feelings without feeling crushed if rejected.

You can develop a positive self image after experiencing rejection or worse.

It's not necessarily easy, but it can be done. A therapist is a good place to start, as he or she will give you a more objective assesment of what's causing this rejection you refer to. You can also work on a plan of action to try to change the rejection. (It may be something you're doing. Of course it's just as likely that the people who rejected you are jerks).
