Good point. Politicians run their administration like they run their campaigns. McCain was a "maverick" (god, I'm tired of that word) when he would vote against the Republicans on issues like immigration and torture. I think he is a changed man and that independent spirit is gone. I have no doubt he would run his administration like he did the campaign.

Back in the 1990's, I was an independent because I believe in international free trade rather than kissing the US labor union's asses like the Democrats do. When McCain ran in 2000, I volunteered on his campaign and was a huge fan. I hated Bush and how he beat McCain in South Carolina. Then with the horribleness of the Bush administration, I became a Democrat. Today I will be voting wholeheartedly for Obama even though I disagree with some of his economic policies. By choosing as a VP a female version of Bush with even less experience and intellectual curiosity coupled with more self-righteous ignorance and an even more annoying accent, McCain confirmed for me that he is not the same person I supported in 2000 or even 2006. There are few things more misunderstood in American History than the 3/5 compromise.

IT DIDN'T SAY SLAVES WERE 3/5 OF A PERSON, rather, 3/5 of the ENTIRE POPULATION OF SLAVES COUNTED TOWARDS REPRESENTATION in Congress and for taxation purposes.

The Three-Fifths Compromise was a compromise between Southern and Northern states reached during the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 in which three-fifths of the population of slaves would be counted for enumeration purposes regarding both the distribution of taxes and the apportionment of the members of the United States House of Representatives. It was proposed by delegates James Wilson and Roger Sherman.
