By the way this is just a matter of opinion...

but I kinda felt that as the guests got better and better for Opie and Anthony, their show suffered for it proportionally.

also whoever complained about the treatment of al roker... wutevah. I wasnt listening to the show in Tampa, but didn't Ron and Ron have some kinda incident with Don Johnson on the phone? And Paul McCartney got all pissed at 'em for playing audio of Linda at a concert? Doesn't seem like their show really suffered for it.

Part of the problem with all this is that its preaching to the choir. The posters that care already "behave" or at least after some prodding get it (see drjoek). Ron wants to control the rest and that's not going to happen.
Its like Ron complaining about bad callers. If the callers suck stop taking calls. If the listening threads are killing the guest bookings pull the name. Ron wants the best of both worlds.

I'm all for expressing opinions! I'm a big believer in it.

There is a right way and wrong way, however.

A right way and a wrong way? Give me an example of the "right way" to express and opinion.

Believe me, the last thing I want is a place that doesn't allow honest discussion and criticism. Hell, I've posted countless times about things I thought didn't work on the show, my frustration with Fez, etc. If this place was ever to become like some other sites (where if you say anything that's not a total ass kiss you get banned) I'd never come here.

I wasn't asking for my thoughts on responsibility to be extended. I was just saying that if the hosts express a concern about something here (for the only time in the 8 or 9 year history of this place) maybe that concern should be addressed.

How about this.

Make the listening threads viewable to people who sign up.

Problem solved.

Hmmm......

I don't think I like this side of Eli

The series of posts above surely point out WHY this board needs an overhaul on mods. By this I mean we need to stop just handing them out to every fuck who posts constantly, who agrees and kisses ass and surely just goes with anything the admin push. Do you really think the debate in the staff room is honest and full MB?! You know I like you MB, but most of what you have simply agree and are glad to be there for whatever reason. I posted a few guys above who in the least speak freely and openly when something doesn irk them.

Hell, I don't even agree with Gvac's argument, but I repsect it and the discussion it brought out. On the topic, Katja and some others bring up good points on how our hosts react and work with guests from time to time. Just as I feel LThreads don't bring in that much in terms of ads here, I doubt that LThreads surely haven't hurt ads on XM or guests.

I really don't think it's time for us to be told what we can and can't say based on the show's feel for a guest. Sorry, but good or bad, it's opinion and a message board so if it hurts them it's on them. Oh and 90% of the people who get flamed surely earned it.

On an somewhat off topic due to reasoning, yes, Listening Threads suck and let's just say are lead by the spurious, weak, specious and surely unworthy.

I like this idea a lot, but I would go one step further and limit posting in the thread to people with x number of posts to be allowed to post there. Point being, to help circumvent the smart asses who will see around Matty's solution. If it were that you need 100 posts for example to post in the listening forum that would go pretty far towards cutting down on the antics of a lot of idiots. Personally I HATE listening threads and I feel they add nothing to the board, but GAZ's earlier post about how nothing is stopping people from creating threads outside of these that forum from discussing various specific things on the show. It's something I do when I feel the need and I think more people should also.

This past Monday Ron brought up yet again his displeasure with ronfez.net listening threads and even mentioned how they've hurt the show with sponsors and potential guests.

Really? Because I can think of a whole lot of non-listening threads that could potentially offend sponsors and potential guests.

That said, if listening threads are a problem for the show, I'm all for figuring out a way to make things better. I'm pretty sure everyone here wants to help promote the show in the best possible light.

Isn't people getting texteded during the show kind of like a listening thread?
Or emails or instant message comments from listeners about topics being discussed?
Or pal-talk, when there is interaction about the show...during the show?

this has probably already been pointed out, but more than once (actually a fair number of times), i have heard ron himself, on air (!), criticize guests that just walked out the door, or were on the day before. therefore, i cannot give a lot of weight to ron's concern that listening threads critical to his guests are detrimental to the show.

Fine - I was trying to be vague in Purgatory because I don't want to start trouble, but if you are calling me out so be it.

Your thread whoring is annoying as fuck and I wish you would knock it off. It is just so much worthless bullshit. Every so often people get pissed that there isn't enough show-related posting and all of these useless threads are easy to find proof.

I have nothing against you personally and often find your posts funny, but I dislike the landslide of threads you have been creating.

But ultimately it doesn't matter what I think. I posted a cryptic comment in a thread for cryptic comments just so I could get it off my chest without causing an uproar. I guess that wasn't good enough.

If he was posting a bunch of spam or meaningless bullshit, fine. You could argue that it is just BS, but his threads are typically about a bunch of different things that people can feel free to discuss or weigh in on. He's not just starting a bunch of meaningless threads or the same thing a dozen times over.

I know I am probably the only one that is bugged by it, so all I wanted to do was vent in a nonsense thread of unrelated comments. But then I was called out on it and had to be honest and respond.

Just because I don't like them doesn't mean that anything is going to be done or should be done about it. I am one person on a board of hundreds. Statistically - my opinion doesn't count for squat.
