I don't really consider "Knowing Me, Knowing You" to be that sad of a song, nor do I feel that way about "Nothing Compares 2 U". They're okay, but not that sad.

Now, Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again, Naturally", which didn't make the list...that's a song that makes me want to jump out a window. Sad, sad, sad.

i saw that list yesterday and thought it was the stupidest list ever. All the songs were about break ups or ending love. People have written songs about dead children

Hmmm.... I dunno about "Last Kiss".
Lyrically, yes... it's sad. But the FEEL is rather upbeat. People actually dance to that song.

When I was a kid, I thought "My Father's Chair" by Rick Springfield was the saddest song ever. Now.... it seems a bit too on-the-nose.

I haven't seen the list but when I think of sad songs I almost immediately think of Chan Marshall. The first song isn't necessarily a sad song but the fan video is depressing. The second one is quite sad.
