I hate shredded lettuce

The other day I picked up a sandwich somewhere that had shredded lettuce in it. Before I could even take a bite half of the lettuce in it as it ended up falling out like little lemmings. I don't really get the whole shredded lettuce thing. Aside from in tacos or fajitas or maybe a wrap I don't see why places feel the need to put shredded lettuce in heros, sandwiches or burgers. For those I think I would rather see leaves of lettuce in there. Discuss.

Are we talking about plain ol' regular lettuce, or are we referring to the infamous iceberg lettuce? Either way, I can't stand the shit in excessive quantities.

Iceberg lettuce produces completely zero nutrition- it's just crunchy water that gets in the way of the good bits of the sandwhich.

I love it when I go to one of those subway/quiznos type chain joints they're always like HUH!??! when I ask 'em for no lettuce. Always assuming that if I don't want lettuce I don't want anything else. Meanwhile I go to local joints to get a hoagie and there's an understanding- some lettuce is nice, just don't kill off the sandwhich with it.

I could write a book about this, I really could, but I think I'll end this diatribe that I won't care about in 5 minutes.

I only use lettuce for one purpose on my sandwiches - to add a little moisture. I detest mayo and mustard, so I'll either ask for just a pinch of shredded lettuce or one leaf if it's whole. It makes little difference to me which one they have.

I think I :wub: all three of you now. Shredded lettuce is fantastic! Diced tomatoes are fantastic! I love a good diced tomato and onion salad. The only time I prefer it sliced is on a sandwhich or burger. In fact, I'll eat a shredded lettuce and tomato sandwhich anyday!

I will occasionally shred lettuce for salads, dice the 'matters, add a lil pepper, and a few other things in a large bowl for dinner.

My bro once saw me pigging on bacon and asked if I was going to have anything healthy with it so I pealed off a leaf of lettuce, wrapped the bacon, then ate it.

Bacon makes everything taste better.

Unless it's going to be consumed immediately after shredding;
lettuce should never be cut with a blade.
It should be torn by hand. Cutting lettuce with a slicer or a knife opens the plant's cells along the slices, oxidizing it faster and making it taste nasty. Tearing keeps the cells intact. The lettuce will naturally pull apart around the cell membranes when it's torn. Ever eat a left-over deli sandwich with shredded lettuce? The lettuce is always overpowering and gross because of this!
