So I have an idea in my head. ideas in my head never end well, usually with Liz cussing me out.
However, I wonder what would happen if we all got together either in a bar or a hotel ballroom with potluck dishes, with certain dishes going head-to-head.
Is there any interest in this whatsoever, or will this end, once again, with Liz cussing me out?

If it's in a hotel ballroom or meeting room, they will provide all the plates and silverware.

But a hotel may frown on people bringing in their own food instead of them providing it.
I got an idea, meet in a hotel that doesn't have a kitchen, that doesn't cater, but does have meeting rooms. That might work.

Not if we give them money to provide a bar, and explain up front what we're doing.

Adding a bar should do it.
Great idea, the whole potluck thing.
I've worked in banquets/catering for awhile now and one of the functions we put on for a group was an Iron Chef challenge. There were maybe four teams. Each team had a butane gas burner and pans. Each team had the same ingredients to choose from. I think they had to do three courses over a period of time. The banquet chef would then judge each team when they were done. It was pretty cool.

My friends and I have done this before, it's actually a lot of fun if you can pull it off properly. Back in college/post college era about 20 of us would go down the shore to my buddy's house on LBI for New Years Eve. He has a beautiful place right on the beach. So we would gather either the day before or two days before NYE and have a 2 day drinking fest that would culminate with New Years Eve. When we all woke up on New Years Day we would have an ultimate Iron Chef cook off. Since we did this for several years everyone had a chance to participate and each year we'd chose like 4 people and break them into teams of 2. During the previous days all of us that weren't participating would go shopping for secert ingredients while at the same time we'd let the chefs know ahead of time what their main ingredient would be so they could have a few days to plan some dishes. It's a ton of fun and if you guys could pull this off you'll enjoy it. Solid idea Matty.

I'm in. I just created a new sandwich this afternoon for my son's lunch. Well, he came up with it, I just named it. Its called the "Trifecta".
Peanut Butter, Jelly and Fluff.
12 hours later and he's still bouncing off the walls.

No. A can of German potato salad that was bright red, with black lettering on a white background. I'll give you three guesses what it looked like, but you'll only need one.
