Look up polar plunge on google. I did it this year in Niagara River / Lake Erie.

Or, look up ironman training for swimming portion.

Grease yourself up with lanolin..that's what we used when me and my gal of the time did the lake champlain distance swim. 8 years ago.
That or a full wetsuit with boots and hood.

Keep moving...a lot!

I did this in Pt. Pleasant on Feb 28th a few years ago. (don't forget that the beaches are NOT groomed so getting out of the water can be a bitch.)

Get dry as soon as you can...we were give NJ state police sweatsuits when we got there (after raising $500+ per person for the special olympics).

Change fast!

You got aqua shoes? 'Cause you'll want 'em.

And keep checking the water temps because that's what'll get you.

So far, the lanolin's the best non "pussy" idea going ... the nutbars who do Polar Bear Plunges (have been to the one @ Pt. Pleasant before ... folks strip down to their shorts, no joke) will go in with as much exposed skin as possible. Sometimes they'll have costumes.

The ones that make me laugh the hardest are guys who cross-dress, especially if they wear grass skirts and coconut "bras."
