He is constantly telling me not to shop in our neighborhood because Dominicans own the businesses and the stuff they sell is garbage.

He doesn't trust buying anything from anyone who isn't white.
Even when Chris and I were getting married and he had to go downtown to get his tux he actually told me that he was dissapointed the people working there were black. I actually had to shush him in the store!
He said if he was gonna come all the way downtown, the least they could do it have white people in the fancy stores.

He also blamed the horrible shape of the apartment we grew up in on Dominicans. He said the building was run by polish people when he first moved in in the 70s and Dominicans came and brought their filth with them.

My grandpa, youngest of his siblings was the first born here. He served on a pt boat fighting german subs. My grandma, who was from Austria married my grandpa.

My other grandfather served in the pacific, his father was first to be born here.

They hated Germany for a bit because they were eager to get out because of what it was becoming. My great grand folks made their kids learn english and learned it them selves.

I think its just a case of resentment to where he was before. Maybe when he sees those people it reminds him of how shitty things were for him as a youth. Maybe he wants the best for you and sees whiteness as goodness.

I have to agree, while it sounds silly to me also I do understand the logic to some extent. I don't know if he sees whiteness as goodness, but he may think for whatever reason that more often than not his own try to screw people or cause trouble or whatever and that he doesn't have the same hassles or experience when dealing with other kinds of people so he avoids it.

I think it's the same thing to some extent when people who need to pick up something they could easily get at the bodega or other non-traditional market and they will pass those stores to drive another mile to get to the store they are used to, even though they could have quickly and easily got the same thing.

This is completely true. There's a lot of me that doesn't blame him cause I know he's been through a lot, but some of the shit he says is out of line sometimes.
