Since it is a new year, and a feeling of 2008 is in the past and this is the new 2009, with the new car smell and is unused, what bits would you like done or ideas contemplated for the new year?

The bit that they do every day on wxrk from 6 to 9 can go.

it ruins the xm show since they are too tired to put 100 percent into that end of it.

I liked the show so much more when it was XM only and I think when the free fm show is gone the xm show will be better then before.

Any "BIT" at all would be nice!

But lets recap 2008:

Anthony: "I'M RICH AND RACIST"

James Norton: "Aids!!"

Opie: "The show is better now then ever!!" (Walks off because he hates Management.)

Plus having to go from one studio to another kills the flow. If they have something going then 9am comes they have to stop go over to XM then start again. If they show was in one place and they didn't have that half hour break in between I think it would be a little bit better.

I'd like to see the hosts challenge their audience (and themselves) a bit more, instead of relying on the hackneyed "shock jock" radio bits that were so much fun 8 years ago.

Once upon a time Ron and Fez were shock jocks too.

Just sayin'.

O&A - At least act like you enjoy being there. Be happy that you have fans and that you get to do something you enjoy. If you don't dig it any longer, just quit. I don't need to hear millionaires bitch about how under-appreciated they are.

It is OK if there is something that pisses you off and you mention it on the show, but O&A have done A LOT of bitching about how much things suck. My job sucks and I don't need to hear about how their sweet gig supposedly blows.

***Edited - and there is a difference about "being honest" and bitching IMO. If there is something "bad" going on and you are sharing it with the listeners that is one thing - constantly going on and on about how much things suck and you are under-appreciated is another. Some stuff is better handled off-air.

That shit would require chicks to call in and do it....you can't blame them if females dont call. Although they do seem to be getting a little stale, they should have Nick Dipaolo on more often, I enjoyed his show in FreeFM while it lasted. Patrice yells to much and doesnt finish sentences.

O&A - At least act like you enjoy being there.

that is the main difference between WNEW and todays show is that they acted like they loved doing the show and they acted like they liked the listeners. When a listener would call up, they would laugh at their joke (even if it wasnt that funny). It creates a more fun vibe..the show is missing "fun". I do enjoy the comics and i think they still have a lot of great discussions, i still think the show is worth listening too, but specifically Anthony is such a miserable grouch that it hurts the vibe of the show

I think you hit it right on - there just isn't a fun vibe most days. I try to listen to the whole O&A show every day, unless they play something I don't care for or they annoy me too much. I hate to admit I turn away more frequently than I ever have.

I still like the show, there are many interesting show breaks, and the comedians are usually really funny. However, I miss the "fun feeling" of a bunch of friends hanging out, and the listener got to feel like a (silent) participant. Now it feels like it is a bother to O&A that I listen to the show and want them to have fun.

This is why many members of this message board are often told they're "jealous" or that we "hate O & A." That's not it at all.

The majority of us are Ron and Fez fans first, or else we'd be posting on Wackbag. We're used to hearing guys who sound like there's no place in the world they'd rather be than in front of the microphones, hanging out and BSing with their buddies.

Although the two shows have always been vastly different, O & A used to have the same vibe, too. It no longer does.

Also, they take like 2 calls a day...one of which is some loser just disagreeing so he can get air time and rile Anthony up. Im not trying to shit on the show but its a real drag lately, no on the show even seem to be on the same page.

i think the WNEW are glorified a lot more then they deserve, people just remember the rare great stunts but they don't remember that it wasn't as "consistently funny" as today. They re-played A LOT of bits, they spent many breaks just getting phonecalls from people who were just WOW-ed...WNEW has a lot of forgotten bad radio

but there are difference between that time and XM and i'll always give credit to the fact that people just preferred the way it used to be. The biggest difference to me is that on WNEW Anthony was the epitome of the "everyday guy"..drinking beer, awful pony tail, hanging out...and now hes cranky millionaire. I can't argue with anyone who says they prefer "everyday guy" Anthony.

But I still listen to O&A everyday. As the year was winding down I went from a "never miss a minute" guy to someone who misses most of the breaks that air from 6-9, but i always listen to the full XM show and i do enjoy myself a lot of the times

You don't have to go back to NEW to find good shows. The show was very good when it was XM only. Terrestrial sucks, and splitting time between the two sucks worse. If Ron and Fez weren't on XM, I would have dumped it long ago, because the XM product of the O and A show is shite anymore.

S0S

it ruins the xm show since they are too tired to put 100 percent into that end of it.

I liked the show so much more when it was XM only and I think when the free fm show is gone the xm show will be better then before.

I would not call it "tired" or not that into it. I think people really forget that since adding terresterial stations, the show has gone from 4 hours to two shows: one 3 hours long and the other 2+ hours long. Remember "the computer is going to cut us off" every other day and the Super Mario running out of time music? How that would end a perfectly good show prematurely?
The show is now 5 + hours times 5 days equal to about or more than 25 hours of new content.
5x5=25
If you add The Ron & Fez Show, it is 40 hours of new content and including the weekends that is 44 hours!

Any "BIT" at all would be nice!

But lets recap 2008:

Anthony: "I'M RICH AND RACIST"

James Norton: "Aids!!"

Opie: "The show is better now then ever!!" (Walks off because he hates Management.)

Considering all those were recent threads on RF.net, I think your perception may be clouded by what you have read. Just a tad.

I too would like them to stay in one studio but they do 2 shows a day as required.

1. Be more funny.

2. Bra Bomb whichever company drops them first.

3. Linger longer.

Okay. For 2, the problem is that General Managers are justifying their jobs in this abysmal time for radio by preferring "local content" over syndicated shows. O&A are obviously not immune and talk radio as a whole is being purged do to the lack luster commercial market due to the need for people to buy things. Even the company that used to help with advertising CBS radio went bankrupt.

I am sure lots of people would disagree with you about how the show is similar now as compared to how it was.

ONA did Money Snatch and other games with chicks before the lawyers got involved.

I remember ONA playing quite a few Pendulum parody songs: my fav was the "Afternoon Delight" send-off.

O&A - At least act like you enjoy being there. Be happy that you have fans and that you get to do something you enjoy. If you don't dig it any longer, just quit. I don't need to hear millionaires bitch about how under-appreciated they are.

I think your dislike for better-off people is clouding your judgment. ONA are passionate about doing radio and what do you want really? A fake happy hacky radio show? There are times when they do get cringey but there are times when they are silly and what-not.

It is OK if there is something that pisses you off and you mention it on the show, but O&A have done A LOT of bitching about how much things suck. My job sucks and I don't need to hear about how their sweet gig supposedly blows.

I think those times is when the listeners are more aware of the show and it becomes something exciting; as evidenced by the many topics in RF.net's O&A forum about those times.

At wnew, there had been many train wrecks, "be more funny", hang-ups, and ping-pong sound clips. The show is still fun or else why are you still listening? I think maybe some nostalgia and over scrutiny is affecting your attitude. Picking a show a part every day will show some rough patches.

I think you hit it right on - there just isn't a fun vibe most days. I try to listen to the whole O&A show every day, unless they play something I don't care for or they annoy me too much. I hate to admit I turn away more frequently than I ever have.

I don't think it is fair to judge something that you do not listening to. There are times when the show is not as good as the day before but comes back. It reads like you are not picking up the similarities to both of the shows. There is this meme that because one show is as it is, the other show is somehow lesser or better. Both shows may not be as different as you perceive them to be. Please, take a critical attitude next week with each show and you might be surprised how there are similar gists. But if you want to enjoy the shows, please don't take them so seriously.

The Virus Tours were a great time when everyone was together. Plus the XM studio has had a live audience section. The K-Rock to XM Walkover. The parties with the latest being on Halloween. Anthony does still hang-out with the listeners. Even Opie hangs out now at F.H. Riley's and events that Ron and Fez are present at. And Jimmy can be found around towns across America as well as other comedians. The show 's staff regularly attends parties and events as well. Anthony was very open with appearances with Jil Nicolini. Even so, Anthony regularly hangs out with The Fans on Paltalk. Anthony may be in a different stage in his career than you are so you may not be connecting as much but he is funny when he talks about his deeds. There were plenty of opportunities to just hang.

i agree with SOS about overly praising the WNEW days and remember it for being greater than it was but still

like, i think an unfair criticism of a show is "its not like it used to be!" but i think there are fair criticisms

to me, the biggest one is Anthony. SOS, you gotta atleast be able to see that on WNEW he was the regular funny guy who does great impressions and now hes racist whiney millionaire. To me, its a totally fair criticism of the show because it is undeniable. I can listen to any "Worst of" and know instantly from Ant's voice which era its from. Can you atleast admit that you can understand why Anthony being "Current Anthony" has turned some listeners off to the show?

Can you atleast admit that you can understand why Anthony being "Current Anthony" has turned some listeners off to the show?

SOS "sees" nothing. Hes a mindless superfan. I really wanted to comeback to them this year and hope to see the start of a new direction. That just isn't the case so far.
They sound strong after the Vacation. And I hope Opie goes into married life for some new content.
The bad gifts/ "snuggie" bit was great! It came outta nowhere and was vintage O&A! Callers were involved it was 10 minutes of some of the best radio they have done in 6 months.
Ant's "I got pulled over" story was :wallbash:.

i liked the movie conversations

since i got a dog, i go home at some point during R&F for lunch (i used to not take a lunch hour and leave at 4). So on that lunch hour i record my xm from when i leave my office til im done walking my dog. when its time for O&A 3-5 i tend to turn off their show and just listen to what i missed on R&F

i think the WNEW are glorified a lot more then they deserve, people just remember the rare great stunts but they don't remember that it wasn't as "consistently funny" as today.

This post sums up my opinion on the current state of the show. WNEW is sometimes glossed over, but if you compared the overall vibe then to today, Anthony has such a callous indifference to us as an audience. Look at Anthony trolling Paltalk while Sam does his creepy gay kid video and you can see exactly why the show will never be the same caliber it was 7 years ago. As a listener and a subscriber, I'm not a "hater" for being dissatisfied with 3 overprepared hours followed by a combined 1 hour of exhausted stumbling to the finish line. I only listen now because I like Jimmy, the comics, and I appreciate that Opie at least cometimes cares.

Hello exactly!

I think Opies attitude is more about "Well we can't DO anything interesting so thats that" rather then Ants version which is "Fuck you all I'm rich now"

I can respect Opies attitude as someone who works for idiots and I let my own work ethic slip because of it.

I think this is the main difference in the show.

The "old" shows, they had fun.
Now, they're trying to have fun.
