Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Dougie!
I'm so happy for you and wish you the best of luck.

If you plan on practicing psychology, you'll need to get your Ph.D, so you are looking at many years of hard schooling. I'm not trying to discourage you, just letting you know.

I also suggest you play around with the idea of going for social work or some relatable field for now, before you take out student loans to go for your doctorate, this way you will have a better idea if this is what you truly wish to do.

I don't know if you have any experience in counseling, but you also might want to look into volunteering as counselor, again to get a feel for the profession.

If you decide therapy/counseling is not for you, there is still so much you can do in the field. Either way, you will have to do alot of brunt work and paper work before you are even licensed or decide to go into private practice.

first i'd figure out which one you want to be.....because when you tell your adviser "i want to be the person fez goes to see" he may not know who fez is.

or if he does know fez he may confuse what you want with the person fez sees on the weekends......and none of us want to be called that.

I would respect you for eternity if you actually did tell your advisor, with a straight face, you want to be the person Fez goes to see.

Good Luck!

Not necessarily true. Many counselors, certain types of therapists, and people like me do not have PhDs. Most have a graduate degree and did a year of "residency" and some research (clinical or meta) before seeking employment.

Good luck Doug!

You are correct, I should've clarified; if he wishes to actually become a psychologist.

so my placements got dumped, but they still have me on as active. my gpa is 2.75. sweet. i have to re take my placements on friday at 1. yay! sooo excited. lots of hot chicks too. i did work count chocula into a conversation with another guy who was waiting too. my buzzer went off to go talk to the advisor and i looked at the dude and said "it looks like ive been chosen, i feel like im sinking into my fist bite of count chocula!" followed by bewildered looks from around the room.
