I go to the best places in town alone. I know I'm gonna order fast, leave a good tip, and never have to worry about dividing the bill. Fuck people, right in their mouths where they eat.

I love eating alone.

Nobody to bother me.

You have to sit at the bar, is the trick. I love eating at the bar.

There are places that don't just sell food through a window in the side of the building?

I don't mind eating alone as long as I have something to read with me, or it's a sports bar and there's TV's to watch. Otherwise, I feel a little strange.

I agree. Then you and the bartender can make fun of all the other losers that are in big groups. "Why is that old bitch ordering Brandy Alexander anyway?" "Of course no one knows how to make that shit."

Thank you for the moral support, my fellow posters. Of course I could do take out, that is not an issue I could just eat at home. But many nights I want to be alone, I want to rack up a bill and pay a tip to some lovely lady who waited on me. But I dont want to be seen alone,, people I kno coming up to me asking me who Im with. so I go far away to where I kno no one will find me

I travel a lot so I kinda got used to eating alone. Its actually kinda nice to be able to just sit down...enjoy a meal, read a paper, do whatever you'd like.

I have a friend who refuses to go to movies alone. That has never made any sense to me. You're sitting in a quiet theater not talking to anyone...what does it matter if you walk in and out of the theater with someone else?

How far away do you go? Big deal; you can eat where you want, when you want, alone. I eat alone, mostly at diners, whenever I feel like it.

It ruins the element of surprise when you play the popcorn gag on yourself.

Yep. I have no problem eating alone. You can either enjoy your privacy or possibly meet new people.

I eat alone at restaurants all the time. I like to treat myself to a good meal. I've seen people I know but no one had ever asked why, but if they did I'd feel sorry for them. There is no need to have to be "seen" with people. In fact, I'd bet more people eat alone in this world than don't.

I cannot eat alone in a restaurant. When I was a driver, I just sat in my car and ate. I wish I could have eaten alone, as I could have had better meals. :glurps:

If it's a matter of people you know bugging you then I see your point. They should mind their own business. It's nice to dine alone and enjoy yourself once in a while.

I agree.
Bring a book or newspaper.
Even if you hardly do any reading ,you don't look lonely or desparatate or whatever else it is that makes us feel self-conscious.

I don't mind eating alone as long as I have something to read with me, or it's a sports bar and there's TV's to watch. Otherwise, I feel a little strange.

I eat dinner alone at bars 2-3 times a week, and I actually look forward to it if I've been off the road for awhile. Hotel bars tend to be more laid back and less likely to have music blaring, plus it's easier to engage people in conversation.

you know... i usually think like this and on thursdays i always eat in my car because i have an hour or so to kill before choir practice, but it's not practical to go all the way home.
and.... being a plus size gal... i guess i have a bit of a fear of the 'stigma'... bla bla

but fuck that...this thread has inspired me. i think i will treat myself to a nice healthy dinner in summit tomorrow night before rehearsal. thank you, gentlemen!

i do it all the time in airports but i always feel a little strange.
maybe being a woman makes the experience different... or maybe i am just insecure... (bingo!)

either way.... it does seem silly. i am ready to face my demons!

Before I married, I would eat alone often. As everyone else mentioned, I would bring a newspaper or book and no one ever bothered me. I would even go to concerts alone and went on a couple of European vacations solo. It's a lot easier traveling with just one.

Being in a diner or eating at the bar alone is one thing. I love the 24 hr. places that make good food. I'm kind of an insomniac. It was nice when you could smoke and drink coffee at these places in the middle of the night. In college I would go to these places, alone and study. Now I might just go with a book or the paper. No more smoking dammit! But there are certain restaurants I would hesitate to go to alone. The type of restaurant that I wouldn't bring a paper or a book to. A restaurant with a good wine list maybe. A real nice place I might feel more self-concious at eating alone.

What bar were you sitting at when this happened, Hooters?

It ruins the element of surprise when you play the popcorn gag on yourself.

The trick is to reach in with your weak hand. You still know it's coming but it feels like someone else.

I love to have a steak and read a book. Fuck good company, who needs it?

What could anyone have to tell me over dinner that is better than reading a great novel?

I also do baseball games, concerts, movies, and sex completely alone.

Someday I'll find a deaf-mute with a great rack and settle down,
but until she comes along I am cool doing everything solo.

Edit*--Is anyone really shocked that a bunch of socially-inept messageboard dorks are so eager to champion isolation?

I enjoy eating alone on a work break, dont fucking want to eat with same fuckers I have to see at work all day

will drive 10-25 minutes away and rush food to avoid the small talk if you eat at the same Pizza Place

when at home, i like eating with wife , couples or friends, after a certain age, you see them less (not the wife, you see her every single day)
