I think one of the reason there are so many anxious people these days is cuz we are all exposed to such rare rare occurances on a daily basis from the news that we just learn to fear so many things that don't make sense. Does anyone have any fears that you know has a 1-in-a-billion chance of happening, but it sometimes shows up in the back of your head?

whenever i am on a long drive, atleast a couple of times i think of what happened to film director Alan J Pakula. This is what happened:

He was killed when another car struck a metal pipe lying in the road and it flew into the windshield of his car.

i never heard this happening to another human being, and even if a car does strick a metal pipe in the road, for it to go flying through your windshield and then penetrating your skull, its just such a 1-in-a-billion shot. But its so scary,to think that one second your driving and the next, some metal pipe flies through your skull out of nowhere. Gives me the heebiejeebies. this happened 11 years ago but i still think about it to this day

I'll tell you one that I don't have, but I'm thoroughly sick of:

Strangers will kidnap your children.

Don't be afraid of strangers, be afraid of that creepy person in your family.

Yes!

As a kid in the 80s I feared the cold war and nuclear fallout. I still remember practicing safe spots in school like under a desk or in the hallway.

I still have a minute fear of a nuclear bomb going off, but that is at the back of my head.

Other than that, I only fear going to places I am unfamiliar with or know is bad like when I had to visit a patient who lived in a bad part of Houston.

Ever since I saw "Jaws" as a kid - I have fears of getting eaten by a shark while at the beach. Even now I NEVER get into the ocean more than waist height (i am stupid to think that I can get see em coming and escape - even though most shark attacks occur in that depth of water). In fact, I even get a creepy feeling while swimming in a lake. God Damn you Steven Speilberg - you have wrecked my water enjoying life!
