I find that I would rather now text someone than actually talk to them.
I sometimes feel that the time it takes to engage in conversation prevents me from doing other things that I want or need to get done, and I get all panicky while in conversation, especially with long winded people. Meanwhile texting affords me much more freedom. The same is true for me with emails.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I know what you're saying is true for a lot of people. Isn't it leading to a disconect between people though? I'll txt or email if I don't need the answer at that moment. It's just a courtesy as to not bother the receipient.

I feel exactly the same way. especially if we are talking details like travel plans, concert dates, or any sort of business, I far prefer e-mail. Part of it is a generational thing. My dad will still say "do you have a pad and pencil with you?" when we are talking and I say no, dad, I am in midtown manhattan on a sidewalk, could you please email me this info. he doesn't, of course, and I end up having to talk to him again when I am at home with a pad and pencil. drives me nuts.
I am finding that I don't like talking on the phone at all anymore. I still like talking in person so I am not becoming a social recluse or anything but phone conversations are just a pain in the ass.

I've been feeling the same way too ya'll. Especially with people I will see relatively soon or see often. One such is my girlfriend, I see her so regularly that we talk less on the phone and more in person. So, we usually just have a few texts back and forth.

i've felt that way for years. i much prefer email or im to actual talk. it's a large part of why i even post here at all.

Unless there's something lengthy to be discussed, I'd much rather text, especially if I'm working. The "reply at your earliest convenience" aspect of texting is much less intrusive than an actual phone call.

Thank God I am not alone! I was beginning to think I was turning into a social outcast. Its like everyone is saying, the information is just easier when I see it and can answer when its convienient. Not that I an disconnected with people. I am bothered by older generation people who have not adapted yet and who get angry at me for not wanting to talk as much.

Some people I call, but texting is so much more convenient now. Live Gvac said, at my earliest convenience where sometimes the call is at a bad moment or a busy moment.

Its good for shit like "im outside, come out" or something. I fucking hate when people text me "Hi", that's the worst. Then they get offended that i don't answer.

I enjoy talking to people because i can get a vibe for how they feel about something, like if I ask someone if they wanna go somewhere i could usually tell by there voice if we're doing it or not. Im trying to make moves, I dont want to be waiting around for a text.

I'm fairly useless when conversing with people in any medium, but I'm borderline retarded on the phone. Even with people I know. Texting is much easier, and there's really no awkwardness when you're trying to end the conversation.

Hell yeah!! I'd rather text my wife rather than speak to her.

Text her a picture of your penis. Then elbow her and say "Whataya think?" Then nod your head.

Do not screw up like me when I took a picturewith my cell of me and our very lovely secretary (administrative assistant) at a department get together and show all the pictures to you wife. When my ex saw that she went in, did two more shots and yelled at me for 3 or so hours.

I don't really like talking on the phone, and I have two friends who love to talk for hours. So, I usually try to text them first to see if I can get away with that. Then, I've still been a good friend and touched base with them without having to talk about their lives for three hours.:help:

I prefer to record my voice, then send it via text.

Right or wrong, that is the exact way I would have reacted in her shoes.

I love talking to people in person, not so much on the phone. On the other hand I don't really like typing out texts with my giant thumbs on my Blackberry either.

I know older people who have cell phones use them primarily for verbal communication, but I believe most younger people use them for texting primarily.

I have friends who still don't know how to text or just refuse to do it.

"If I want to talk to someone I'll call them."

I don't take their calls anymore.

My mother just discovered how to send text messages. Now, my siblings and I get these odd cryptic texts and are constantly wondering if she has suffered from a stroke.

anywho: I have a hard time myself when people want to have a regular back and forth conversation through text messages. If it is 1 or 2 lines back and forth ok, but sometimes it's like a paragraph and i end up just calling that person.

I prefer speech for a couple of reasons:
I'm too damn cheap to pop for the extra 5 bukcs a month for unlimited texting.
My fat fingers have a hard time pressing the 'lil buttons.
I have to put my glasses on to read the phone, (far-sighted) and therefore cannot do texting while I'm driving.
