View Full Version : I'm feeling over-inaugurated
Allow me to preface this by saying that yes, I do realize what a historic event this is. I appreciate it in that light, but seriously I have had enough of the coverage already!
If it had just started today, it would likely still be kind of overload, but I guess such is the case in this world of 24 hour news. The fact that all that has been on all weekend, pretty much all month has been this pre-inaugural coverage. Am I the only one who is kind of over it, like the news coverage spoiled it by just making you sick of watching it? And while we're at it, if we're in the difficult economic times that we are is it really necessary to spend $155 MILLION dollars for this inauguration? I realize there is an unprecedented need for additional security measures, but I know that whole amount (largely) wasn't spent on security.
I am looking forward to hearing President Obama speak, and I'm digging the fact that he's using Lincoln's Bible, I guess I just wish I hadn't been bombarded with coverage to this point.
If there is no new news on a story why does the media continue to report on it?

I have not seen any of it.
Or heard any of it other than what they are doing on OnA.
And do people know how to live with the TV off? (this wasnt directly towards you. There was a caller this morning said they couldnt get away. from it)(So im sure she is sitting there eating breakfast with the tv on)

Every AM I put the news on to gež the weather and traffic reports as I get dressed. All last week, they talked how the PM anchors were in DC LAST week to report on the event of TODAY. Last night during dinner, I put the news on to see what's up and only ONE anchor was in DC. That to me made no sense.
Gwen, I agree with you and at different times last week, I just had the TV off and listened to some music.

True, they did leave the black one.
Like Stugots I turn it on in the a.m. For traffic and weather (also used to follow the market for my old job) so I was just feeling innundated with it. My new job has the news on all the time, I guess I should just try to tune it out.

I just wish they would stop saying, "This is Obamas day. He can do no wrong today" like he's some sorority sister on her wedding day.

I got the playstation 3 for christmas, and it has taken up all the free time with which I would otherwise be watching the news. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with my gift.

You mean everyone knows he's a slut and still TOTALLY in love with Chet from Lambda Chi? And OMG...didn't they have dinner last month and she TOTALLY won't talk about it with anyone?

Cnn has run out of things to talk about. They act like the are just breaking the news that there used to be laws based on race. We get it, he is different then every president before him.

The TV has been off except for football and movies since election day. I also avoid reading anything about it, I can not fathom the media love for Obama.

i will say this, i dont mind the inauguration coverage cuz i understand its the biggest thing happening in this country right now
but
i am soooooooooooo sick about hearing about Obama's blackness. I think its great that we finally broke the cycle of "white christian male president" and i do think its a good thing for this country, but all they seem to be talking about is that Obama is black. I actually think its kinda demeaning to the man to just focus on only his race.
i dunno, maybe it was the way i was raised, but i dont think its such a big deal that hes a black man

What few know is that GAZ was raised in the dimension that this movie was set in:

So, for all my kvetching about this earlier I actually ended up watching CNN's coverage of the swearing in of Biden through the first poet after Obama and I was glad I did. President Obama is one hell of a speaker and has a wonderful speech writing team behind him. Everyone in my office's eyes welled up at one point or another during his speech.
His words about crossing the icy Delaware, that it's not what you destroy but what you build, so many powerful words. I am a registered Republican, but I, too, feel a sense of hope that we might be able to turn the page here.
I suppose I un-confess?

I think this is in part some of what I was wanting to say when I first started this post and yet some how I touched on NONE of it, I'm good like that.

I flicked it on and off throught the day, this was what made me finally stop watching...
On ABC news in Philly they were interviewing an old black lady at the Inauguration. She was in a roped off section and they had given blankets to the people there. Im not sure who they said left theres but the old lady told the news reporter she took it. Heres the conversation that followed...
Reporter (jokingly):Were gonna have to check with our program director to see if thats a felony or a misdemeanor" (laughs)
Lady: Its neither. We got a black president now.
That pretty much just made me laugh and turn off the tv til I started watching what I thought was the VMA's later.

I didn't realize there were that many black marching bands, dance troops, and tumbling teams in the country. I expect to turn on the TV tomorrow morning and still see the parade going on.
Rather it was Meghan Mccain.
Fixed that for you.
