Well, I lost my job..I was a professional..Always brought up thinking that unemployment was ...well sponging off the system.
I got unemployment while I searched for a job. Worked as a laborer over the summer...went back on unemployment...went on Job interviews..They paid less than unemployment...currently, I am paying for my retraining as an EMT. Just feel like a scumbag for being on unemployment.

Exactly. And your former employer pays, too. That's what it's for. You're not taking advantage, unless you take the money and don't intend to get another job. Besides... You can't get unemployment checks unless you worked to begin with. You EARNED it.

I'm on unemployment and the only place I'm looking for work is on ronfez.net. If its not here, I'll be unemployed for a while longer.

Welcome to the club, sucker.

In this economy, you can't afford to have pride. You get offered unemployment, you take it.

Same here, buddy. No reason to feel guilty about filing for unemployment -- as noted above, you paid for it.

Don't get down on yourself for losing a job, especially if it isn't due to a major fuck-up on your part. (Even if it was, everybody's entitled to at least one.)

This capitalist system is designed to tear down old companies and jobs that have stopped contributing much to the commonweal and to take those pieces and rebuild them into new & more productive entities. Sounds elegant at the top level but it is usually pretty wrenching for the people it happens to. Unemployment insurance is just part of the system to facilitate the process between the demolition and reconstruction so don't feel guilty about it. With the shape the current economy is in, I think that a pretty big % of the people in the country (and on this board) will be going through the same process at some point.

So just rub some dirt on your ego and walk it off.

I've not read better advice lately. Well put. Ego is really a killer. Do what you have to do to get by. It's an account you paid into and should feel no guilt in drawing from.

no, not at all.
despite her critical nature, she actually loved me.

the company just wasn't making money.... much like most real estate developers.
so they had to let me go.

Not working sounds great to people but thats only if you are lazy. If you are out of work any length of time you start going cabin crazy cause there is only so much internet to surf or TV to watch before you get completely bored. When I was out after surgeries I even started to wake up at 7am because I was sleeping so bad.

At least you are retraining yourself for more opportunities, its the best and smartest thing you could ever do.

I used to have the same feelings about using unemployment - until I had to use it. the only thing that sucks is the amount you get monthly is not alot. Any amount is good but it would be nice to at least get 1/2 - 3/4 of your monthly pay.

My wife lost her job in Oct. and she has been going to school and it started out great, but now she wants to get to work and she starting to get depressed.
So I guess I'm saying my family knows how you feel, like I tell her take advantage of the time you have to find a new career.
Everyone is feeling your pain, stay strong:wink:

I've been jobless since October, doing manual labor wherev'er i can find it. One of my best friends has a masters degree in some form of finance, i can't recall at the moment, he's been out of work since March, with a wife and baby girl at home. Like the Steve Miller Band once said "Take the Money and Run". I've done unemployment before and trust me man the way i was raised i fucking hated it, but when you have responsiblities not just unto yourself but others; you can't let your pride fuck with you. Worse comes to worse bro we can grow weed and cook meth together and start a RF.net drug cartel. Seriously though just keep your chin up man and take whatever you can get my friend.

I was doing jobs here and there but no steady job. Not for a long time.

Now it's gonna be hell trying to find a job in PA. I have so much experience bartending but not sure if that's what I really want to do there. It's already fucked with my sleep cycle for life.

Score! the EMT class is being paid for by the place I hope to get employment when I pass the state exam! (I pretty much was assured a job by them..they also offered to help me out with getting my medic cert after that. Which means about double what they pay EMT's nice..but that is at least a year or so off.)
I tried to get funding through the state..They are out of Money so I would have had to wait 6 months to get training paid for..the class starts a week from Monday..

This thread makes me nervous.

I was just laid off my job of 8 years recently and now I am nervous about being able to find another job.

I really have no problem with unemployment though and just received my first check. I am just thinking of it as a vacation check and it helps to clear my conscious.

I would turn him in to the unemployment office, he cant threaten you if its a huge step down. I got threatened once when I was looking and asked the ass point blank why I should feel threatened by a guy who makes less in a half a year that I can get in a full year? He started spouting some other bullshit and I also informed him that he can get in serious shit if he pursues anything against me since its obvious I was way over qualified for his job offer.

Some people just look for cheap labor with experience and try to fuck you over, there are laws in place to protect you from this sort of shit, report his ass, you can even do it anonymously if you are scared of retribution. I fucking hate scumbags like that.

I did call them to make sure of my classification status and told them about the call...the woman was more than interested in the name of the person who called me, his number, and which store he represented.

Yeah that doesnt surprise me, I just hope she does something about it since that is highly illegal, in georgia I followed up with our state office and the bitch ended up getting suspended without pay. Its not bad enough that people feel bad they are out of work, assholes like these have to threaten people into taking jobs, mine was just some douche who wanted a free networking guy, he ended up getting fired but he deserved it.

Got hurt at work 3 months ago, been on workman's comp since then. Today was D-Day, saw the doctor, and he told me he can't morally let me do that type of work again, and would not release me.

So I get disability for another year at 65% pay, not bad since I was traveling 100mile round trip every day anyway.

Funny thing is my PCP released me initially, and I fucked up my back again 2 days later, he gave me another two weeks off, saying I had a bad strain. I said fuck it, saw a specialist, he immediately sent me for an MRI, which showed that I had a cracked disc, and a bulging disc in my back. A couple more pops, and I'd be fucked for life, surgery, and pain meds.

Guess I should get a new PCP..... Wait, I'm unemployed, I don't even know how that works anymore.

so your still on workers comp? Then your medical is paid by workers comp insurance and each company/state has a "panel" of comp doctors that you have to use to get it paid for. you should have a comp specialist that has been working with you and you should call and talk about what has happened and you want another doctor stat!
