Most small cities/towns actually hire City Managers to do the real work of running the town, because the mayor, as Ronnie says, it's just some douche who's lived there all his life.

Friday
02-26-2009, 08:50 AM
being Mayor of a small town isn't a full time job but it IS a full time responsibility.
you would be surprised at how much they are involved in, especially if there is building or zoning going on in their jurisdiction.

A man walks into a bar and orders a glass of Polish vodka. As the bartender slides the drink to the patron, a man sitting next to him remarks, "That's a coincidence, I, too, am enjoying a Polish vodka. Since
I arrived from the old country, this is the only bar in which I have found it."
To which the first replies, "Old country, I'm from the old country. Let me buy you another!"
As the drinks are being poured, one of the men asks, "What part of the old country are you from?"
"Krakow," replies the other. "This is weird," says the first, "I, too, am from Krakow! Let's get another shot."
After the new round arrives, the first asks, "So, pal, what did you do back in Krakow?'
"Not much, really, I came here right out of high school. I graduated from Lech Walesa Technical Academy in '81."
"This is eerie," replies the other, "I'm Welesa Tech, '81. Let's get another shot." But the bartender says, "Slow down fellas, I gotta make a call."
The bartender calls his wife and tells her that he'll be late getting home. When she inquires as to the cause, he replies, "Oh, the friggin' Liszjewski twins are here again."

CHUCKWAGONCOOK

Two Poles emigrated to America. On their first day off the boat in New York City, they spied a hot dog vendor in the street. "Did you know they eat dogs in America?" one asked the other. "I did not know that." "Well, If we're going to live here, we might as well learn to eat like Americans." So they each bought a hot dog wrapped up in wax paper and sat down to eat them on a nearby park bench. One Pole looked inside his wax paper, then over at the other Pole and asked, "What part did you get?"

KnoxHarrington
02-26-2009, 08:55 AM
I'd also add that I think "Polack" jokes have faded out because people of Central/Eastern European descent have been more absorbed into the big framework of "white people". When those jokes were big, being Polish was seen as being a member of a race as much as being black or Asian would be.

tyler perry's plays/ movies are geared towards the "chitlin' circuit". i didnt just make that term up either. its part of the same group of plays the Beacon Theatre puts on.

this is why i laugh when i hear people like Jimmy Norton poking fun at the movies saying he doesn't get why anyone goes to see them.
dummy! he isn't looking to get YOU to the theater.

but i have friends who actually left work early to go see the most recent Medea movie.

I heard Biderman on Stern this morning. He talked for a while and he made sense in some of his points, a lot better than the poor showing the marketing woman did when this first blew up SIX MONTHS AGO.

No.
He is saying that if there is something amiss with the marriage and the person is going to cheat, they have tons of outside opportunities to do so.
It was in response to Ronnie calling out the insecure people who suggest that this website is giving their partner an easier way to cheat.

And he is now making the same point Gvac did. It's a place where you can be honest about your situation... instead of signing onto personals sites where they have to lie about being single.

It may be immoral, but it's a business. And it makes sense if you think about it.

I don't deny at all that it's just business. However, Noel seems to be making a MORAL argument, almost as if this site is GOOD for society.

I just wanted to clarify my original point. Basically, most cheaters lie to their spouse and their lovers. People using AshleyMadison are only lying to their spouse, so I guess they're only half as bad a liar as the others.

I still despise liars, however. I value truth and honesty over any other trait.

I agree completely; the problem is more the lying and deception than the sex.

and who is worse, the site or the people who use it?
