View Full Version : I showed up for work when I wasn't supposed to

So I showed up for work and my boss looks at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears. "Why are you here? Saturday was canceled." he said.
"It was? Well why didn't you tell me?!"
Here comes the scary part:
My boss says, "I did! Don't you remember? You walked by my desk, I called you over and said, 'Saturday shifts are canceled' and you said, 'Oh great!'"
I TOTALLY don't remember any of that. It just didn't register.
This past week was really stressful. On Monday that announced a 7.5% pay cut across the board and resumed letting people go on Tuesday. There's more work and less people so I'm doing a lot of OT. The minute I sit at my desk until I leave I'm proofreading jobs. I'm just cranking 'em out. Plus I'm worried about how I'm going to budget for that lost 7.5%, not to mention the fact I'm scared of losing my job, period.
I think my neurons and synapses are just shot! :surrender:
I once showed up for a wedding a week early.
At least I got a free cocktail hour out of the deal before I realized I didn't know anybody there.

I guess Gvac hates your ears.
I think it shows initiative and dilligence.

I think it shows initiative and dilligence.
And mental instability. I actually clock in about a half hour before my shift and work so I can get that extra OT.
I gotta say, I got nothing out of it. At least Gvac got cocktails and little pigs in a blanket.
I was sort of counting on this Saturday since it's the last one at my full pay. The 7.5% goes into affect on the 1st.
EDIT: I haven't had two days off in a row in a long time. I almost don't know what to do with myself.

I recently got yelled at for putting in 1 hour of overtime.
Yelled at.
It used to be that you got yelled at for putting only 40 hours in a week.

I once went to the airport a day early for a flight, and the guy at the counter couldn't find my name on the computer, and I gave him holy hell. I was cranky because I was running late and who knows what else. I was just a real redass with him.
I said "Look, here's the e-ticket I printed out right here" and handed it to him.
I'm sure it brought him enormous joy to be able to say "Sir, you're flight doesn't leave until tomorrow".
I went slack jawed for a good 5 seconds, then laughed and laughed like hell. Apologized to the guy - he was cool about it - and went home.

Did you arrive wearing nothing but your underwear? If so, then it was a bad dream. Back to work SLACKER!

Oh I got one like that.
Right now my dispatcher is out on FMLA to basically be on deathwatch while watching her daughter die of cervical cancer while on hospice. So I am the acting dispatcher.
We (the full-time drivers) have been told we have been logging too much overtime, so we hired a whole bunch of part-time drivers. Problem is, they use their own cars for deliveries, so the company has to pay them .36 cents a mile.
Recently I was told that while I have been doing a good job, I am giving the part-timers too many miles. But I've also been told I've given the full-timers too many hours.
My thinking is this: the miles have to be driven. Our patients need the meds that day, according to the pharmacists who fill the scripts. Either you're paying a full-timer overtime to drive them to cut back on part-timers being paid for those miles, or you're paying the mileage pay to the part-timers to keep overtime costs down. You can't have it both ways.
Am I wrong, or am I just going crazy? On top of all of this, since I'm doing the dispatching, I can't drive. So that's automatically one full-time driver out of the picture, and even though my day starts at 8:30 am instead of 9 am now in order to start the day and be ready for when the drivers arrive, my overtime has gone from an average of 20 hours a pay period (bi-weekly) to 6. I got about 4.5 hours overtime today coming in on Saturday to drive the truck we rented to move the billing record out of the basement to a storage unit. That helps, but the gas bill this winter is killing me because of the pay cut.
Edit: Also when I was hired about 7 years ago, one of the questions asked was "Are you comfortable with a lot of overtime?" Back then, there were only two full-timers and a 10 hour day felt like getting a day off.

I had today off, but the new dude at work was doing OT today. I told him if you have any problems call me. Well, he did and I went to work for less than five minutes to do something and I ended up hurting my back carrying something.
Awesome.
