Wow, Contreras got knocked around, but even worse than that, the White Sox defense looks like a Sunday softball league. Jeeze... Guys throwing the ball away, dropping catches, Dye throwing from a sitting position... If it was my team, this would be hard to watch. Someone needs to put together a White Sox defense hilight reel to the Benny Hill theme.

you have to figure the Yanks are gonna make Damon an offer to stay, the question is how long? He can still make a decent living the next couple of years with that right field porch

Would you offer him arb?
He might get a ton, but for 1 year i think its worth it, and if he signs somewhere else, Yanks get two picks.

i guess it depends on how far off they are in terms of dollar amounts. if damon thinks he's worth 12 million next year and the yanks think he's only worth 8 then yea, go to arbitration. otherwise i think he's effective for 2 more years there at the plate. id try and work out a two year deal, maybe do a third year as a team option.

Oh my God... he did not.
For anyone who's not watching... Girardi brought Hughes in for 1 out in the bottom of the 8th in a 3-2 game. Solid move, no problems there. The Yankees then proceeded to have an inning that was nothing short of embarrassing for the O's... Yanks racked up base hit after base hit and put a 7 spot on the board. Inning must've been a half hour long... Yanks lead 10-2, game is blown open. Who starts the 9th? Phil Hughes.

According to ESPN's Fantasy baseball page (Mo's on my roster), Rivera has a slightly pulled left groin muscle. He's listed as day-to-day. May be out until Monday. Girardi has said that Hughes will be the closer until Rivera can come back.

Hey, stay classy Toronto. No wonder spoon roots for them, theyre d-bags just like he is:
"Nick Swisher and Jerry Hairston Jr. were talking after the game last night about the unfathomable abuse the Yankees were subjected to at the Rogers Centre.
Fans were cursing the players, throwing things at them and generally behaving like idiots. According to Swisher, Toronto has become the worst environment in the league for opposing players. The Yankees have had issues all season, particularly with fans throwing debris at the players in the bullpen. The teams two security guards were stationed out there last night to keep anything from happening.
Meanwhile, some dope picked up a foul ball and nearly pegged Alfredo Aceves in the head in the sixth inning. The man stood raising his arms and getting congratulated by fellow idiots. It took nearly five minutes for security to reach the area and when they did, the crowd booed.
This has been happening all season to other teams. There is a clear lack of security in the ballpark.
One of our readers, Kevin, sent me this note last night:
I have been to many games since I moved here from Southern Ontario last year. In all but two or three of those games, I have seen large-scale fights break out all over the stadium, police officers having to run to the sections to make arrests, unbelievable profanity being used, as well as debris tossed onto the field.
I was at the opener this year against Detroit and the fans began throwing paper airplanes onto the field. It all started when a fan threw a baseball at Curtis Granderson and just missed him. Jim Leyland took the Tigers off the field and a riot almost broke out. They eventually calmed down when they were warned the Jays would have to forfeit if order was not restored.
The fans here tend to get drunk (at $10 a beer too) and all hell just breaks loose."

Canadians shouldn't be allowed any other sports other than Hockey and Curling. They don't deserve a baseball franchise. It's time to make baseball for the Americans again.

Alfredo Aceves might be the most unsung guy on this team. He has been fucking stellar all year. He's basically been the second half of Joba's starts all year, and more times than not, he puts up 3 or 4 scoreless frames. The reason why none of the Yankee greats never got more than that was because they walked so much, in the case of Babe and Lou. And the fact that Lou's career was cut short.
You can't just pick one stat that you find that's favorable to you, then not talk about many others that don't. What are you, a REPUBLICAN!? The great Sen would be so dissapointed with you right meow.

i actually wasnt even talking about Rivera and his lack of effort on that ball. I was talking about the fact that Nick Green struck out not once but twice to end the game yet the umpires refused to punch him out. thus allowing him to walk and tie the score, which then led to Rivera giving up on a ball.

Two 1-run wins in Anaheim is a sign you're playing solid baseball, especially today's win (since we didn't blow a 5-run lead in this one). Looks like Boston's gonna win tonight, and likely tomorrow, so we go into our set with them up 5.5. So long as we don't get swept, it's basically locked up.
Pleased with AJ's performance today -- Let's hope he can carry that into his last couple starts and into October.

no he doesnt. his bat will certainly be missed. and he'll prob. be good value for whomever gets him, especially a team like the Angels and the bargain they got with Abreu this season. but damon offers more flexibility and theres some primed minor leaguers looking to make a jump next season. re-signing just unfortunately doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

Go New York Free Agent Whores!!! YAH!
How do they do it?
You really are a dummy sometimes - not just for mocking of Swisher as a "free agent whore" - but because Swisher was acquired in a trade for Wilson Betemit.

Let's see.
Yankee's 2B and Shortstop - free agents, definitely.
Centerfield? Most certainly free agents.
Right field? Again, free agent.
Catcher? Totally free agent.
3/5 of the starting rotation? Just rollin' that free agent money.
Nearly the entire bullpen, especially the two late innings guys and closer? Freeeee agents.
Hell, an argument could be made that the 3b is a free agent as well.

It was a team rip, not based on the picture outside of their celebration and HHH's gay post.

Yes, you are an idiot for even making this assumption to help fit ur awful argument.

Just so you can go back and check ur own facts/posts, try again at multiple positions. I guess you have no knowledge AT ALL about international free agents huh? Oh and as if this has nothing to do with the main change in the team from last year right (CC, AJ and Tex). It's very funny to just ignore those simple facts which absolutely DESTROY your false arguments.
Try again.

International free agents? Really? How the fuck are you supposed to get players then? Only players from the US, Canada, and US territories are eligible for the draft. With your logic, are you seriously implying that Rivera is not a homegrown Yankee product? What the fuck?
You ever think when it comes to free agents, it's not just about the money, it's the fact that they want to actually play for the Yankees?
The main reason why Tex wound up with the Yankees instead of the Red Sox is because his wife thought Boston sucks and the tri-state area would be much nicer to raise a family.
Burnett all but said the reason he opted out of his deal is because Toronto sucks and he wants to play in New York.
CC, well, yeah, it's all about money.
A-Rod was acquired via trade and essentially signed a long-term contract extension after he opted out. Opting out is widely seen as A-Rod's biggest gaffe with the Yankees.

you sum up yankee fans so well tenbats
yes, aj says toronto sucks and wants to play in new york for the simple love of the state and city. perhaps even that winning tradition that somehow happens to be linked to that team of gritty no names who just WANT to play there for the spirit of the past itself. you simply nailed it. and yes, i was CLEARLY talking about Rivera...nailed it again buddy. U sir are a wizard of the wise.

Matty, pretty much all the international stars signed by teams are free agents. Some teams have been crying for years for there to be a draft of some kind so that there might be some parity for teams like the Royals, Nationals and so forth. Fuck...don't believe me read this article (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/250685-international-baseball-draft-long-overdue).

Ok lets start here...your "homegrown Yankee" is in fact a "homegrown Panamanian SIGNED by the Yankees. And I quote "Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1990." Don't believe that fact it is listed Here (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/riverma01.shtml).
You ever think when it comes to free agents, it's not just about the money, it's the fact that they want to actually play for the Yankees?
And who has been a Vegas bet shoe-in to make the playoff's every single year for the last 15 years? Yes, your homegrown, via free agency, NY Yankees. Now dont get me wrong, I love free agency. It is great to see how they work for some teams, bust for others. The good old American economic way...spend on your product to make double your returns. Sometimes the investment pays off. Sometimes it doesnt. But to seriously imply that they are only going there cause they are the Yankees, and not for being on a winning team (Mike Mussina, Roger Clemens, AJ fucking Burnett for Christ's sakes!!!) or for the paycheck is absurd. Just an equal amount of guys go to Sox for both reasons too. And look at Griffey...he had an opportunity to go to a team like the Yankees or Sox back in 2000...he went to the Reds. So that logic is moot.
The main reason why Tex wound up with the Yankees instead of the Red Sox is because his wife thought Boston sucks and the tri-state area would be much nicer to raise a family.
What is he emasculated letting his wife make decisions?? Lets see some evidence of this claim...
Burnett all but said the reason he opted out of his deal is because Toronto sucks and he wants to play in New York.
And lets take a look at the teams he has played for:
1999-2005 Florida Marlins. Sure he was technically part of the 2003 Marlins team, which monkey-stomped the piss out of that juggernaut Yankees team, but he was hurt. And played for shitty Marlins teams before and after 2003
2006-2008 a Blue Jays team going nowhere. So going nowhere they can't even fix the signs on the mother fucking stadium to make it readable...
2009-???? See my argument above about wanting to play on a winner. The guy was nearly there in 2003, but injuries precluded him. Now we find out if this guy has any hype to him in the post-season.
CC, well, yeah, it's all about money.
One you got correct.
But international stars are not drafted in a lot of cases. Remember the bidding war over Hideki Irabu and El Dugue when they first got here. The Yankees made sure with capital alone that other teams didn't get near those guys. They were not part of some special international draft...

Griffey has stated publicly, many time through the years, that he never wanted to play for the Yankees because of the way they treated him as a kid when he hung around with his dad. I have no clue if he had any desire to go to Boston, but I'm curious where you got that information.

My point was that he had an opporitunity to go to places like that, but didn't choose it. Basically not everyone wants to play for the Yankees.
Yea on the international free agent topic....Spoon wins hands-down. Give the Yankees credit for signing the right international free agents, but their abundance of resources have done the trick on that one. Think of that advantage as the Yankees having an extra first round pick every year to acquire talent.
I am absolutely on the "international free agents" must go into the draft movement.

Agreed. I don't begrudge a team for spending a lot of cash, but there needs to be an international draft.

Its amazing when you look at the manner in which the current Yankees have been shaped by international free agency. Just looking at the roster I came up with:
Mariano Rivera, Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, Hideki Matsui, Juan Miranda, Ramiro Pena, Francisco Cervelli and Alredo Aceves....all international free agents. Then factor in the fact that they got A-Rod because they could take on his contract and they gave up an international free agent, Alfonso Soriano, as compensation.
I don't begrudge the Yankees for exploiting that angle, but if you don't think an international draft is needed, then you don't understand baseball.

Fuck Griffey. The clubbies told him to stop acting like a juvenile delinquent when he was like 11 years old. He held it against them for 25 years and went to Cincinatti and did nothing but get hurt (ie steriods caught up with him).

He would have like 800hrs with them.

I find it ironic that you are a fan of all the teams from a City that you would be terrified to visit...
Until you visit the lovely town of Detroit...none of us can take you seriously.
