I bug out after every loss. But something about yesterday's game really dug into me... and drove me to shatter a glass against the wall. Cleaning up wasn't fun. Don't tell my roommate. It was his glass.
God, you're a fucking joyboy, aren't you? Smashing stuff, after a loss, in early June, when you're a half game out of first place? What the fuck is wrong with you? It's baseball, not the stock market.

And yeah, Giambi, as likeable as he was, for the most part sucked major ball.

Win tonight, win the series against Tampa.

he might get called up for a cup of coffee in september, but right now (especially with nady comming back soon) the yanks have more then enough people in the outfield. they would prefer that he stayed in the minors all year and continued to develop, even though he's raking his power still needs to come around.

Beckett has been absolutely locked in his last 5 or 6 starts, so we're gonna have to get to him early if we want a chance to win this game. Especially since Burnett's been mediocre at best.
Assuming they actually get the game in tonight.

Xavier Nady making progress (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2009/06/09/2009-06-09_xavier_nady_making_progress_pitchers_take_their _cuts_for_nl.html#ixzz0Hx69y3cu&D)
Xavier Nady continues to make progress with his injured right elbow in Tampa, leaving open the possibility the outfielder could rejoin the Yankees next week for their nine interleague games in National League parks.
Nady went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk in an extended spring game, but the Yankees aren't worried about his bat being ready. He continued his throwing program at a distance of 75-90 feet, and while he experienced no pain he will need to extend that distance to roughly 150 feet before he can return from the disabled list. "We'll just have to send our cutoff guy out a little bit further," Joe Girardi said. "I think there is a chance that could happen."
Nady has been out since April 14 with an ulnar collateral ligament injury, though he was able to avoid the second Tommy John surgery of his career. Nady has played in five rehab games since May 27, going 7-for-20 with three home runs.

At this point, we've made it virtually impossible to win any sort of season series. So if this division comes down to a tie-breaker, Sox already have it locked up.

It turns out our suckage against the Red Sox this year is actually suckage of historical proportions. This from MLB.com --
"Josh Beckett hurled six shutout innings, and David Ortiz homered as the Red Sox silenced the Yankees, 7-0, improving to 6-0 against their bitter rivals for the first time since 1912."

Put him in the pen. The choices are this:
1) Stunt Wang's development
2) Stunt Hughes' development
In that situation, especially since Wang has one primary pitch, and Hughes has ridiculous, nasty stuff, I feel a lot more comfortable developing Hughes than I would Wang.

i mean it has only been 7 games, and they are still right up there for 1st place, so i am not sure it really means all that much. it would be awesome to win, but the pitching is in flux right now and they just met up at a bad time. this could have just as easily been 2 loses against texas or anyone else.

This team is so bad its ridiculous. None of the pitchers can pitch. They only score runs when they hit a homerun. They can't hit any pitchers that they haven't seen before. I hope they go on a thirty game losing streak. That way they'll be so far beyond any chance of a playoff spot and I can just relax the rest of the summer.

I think your starting pitching is excellent and you have great depth. I'd worry more about your bullpen.

Two things:
1) You can't tell me the field is the exact dimensions. I don't care what's written on the walls, that satellite photo of the old Yankee Stadium imposed over the new that shows the dimensions being shorter in the new one is accurate.
2) It's the way the wind banks off of the old Yankee Stadium. The stadium will play a little more fairly once it's gone.
All in all, it's a much better viewing experience in the seats at the new Yankee Stadium, but the concourse is a little much.
I love the historical paneling of old Yankee highlights that wrap around the concourse, and they did a nice job incorporating a lot of nostalgia stuff, but it's WAY too much like a mall food court.
Also, a decent number of the people they attract now with the new ticket prices don't even pay attention to the game...I know the Yankees got crushed, but that place was pretty lifeless all game from a Yankee perspective.
There was WAY more juice for the Mets before and during the game.
Finally, I have to say...my final tally showed that the chicks in Mets jerseys and BP shirts were hotter than the chicks in Yankees jerseys and BP shirts...this wasn't even close by the way.
All in all, it's decent, but the atmosphere isn't there....I mean really, who the hell wants to eat sushi and get a cut of Wagyu beef for the road at a baseball game?
Oh, and I didn't think the prices were that crazy around the concourse, but then again, I usually just get one beer and one thing to eat at a game...I can see how that just crushes families if they bring their kids

Ok, first, please don't compare the Pat White situation to the Drew Henson situation. it's two totally different things.
1) The Yankees took a flyer on someone who's got a rocket arm and good legs.
2) There is no guarantee Pat White is going to be a starting NFL QB. I mean, he's built for the Dolphins' offense and he's a perfect fit, but there's no guarantee.
The Yankees didn't even have White's phone number to call him, and they drafted him in the 48th round.
I mean, let's see what happens.

He's another way the yanks beat the drafting system....international free agents that for some reason don't enter the draft. So the yanks throw more money then anyone else can for a outside player with potential and no exp in the states. Yeaaaaaaa

For that and my joba to jobber tag, I should get some points.
Yeah, the Yanks have total domination of international free agent signings. That's why they have Albert Pujols, Dice-K, Felix Hernandez, Victor Martinez, Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Beltran, John Santana and countless other superstars born outside the US. Because they can totally dominate international free agent signings in a completely unfair way.

They get who they want, minus a few times here and there. They simply outbid anyone just like the free agent market. So yes, just like FA not all go to the yanks, that much is true, but in this case you may need to blame ur awful scouts.

You can't compare the FA market with the international marker. The free agent market has a very limited number of largely known players. The international market is an almost unlimited number of completely unknown players. The Yanks can't afford to scout every teenager in every country. And further they can't be throwing millions at latin teenager after latin teenager after latin teenager. If the Yanks tried either of those things it would outstrip even their resources. You can't assert that some huge advantage exists when it's not nor has it ever manifested itself.

And by the way Pujols is from DR and is a part of the am draft, while Beltran and other from PR are a part of the draft as well.
The likes of Santana, Hernandez, Martinez and Cabrera are all from a little country called Venezuela. I'm sure it's pretty hard to find the resources to cover Japan's major leagues and Ven, but hey we all know just how bad the economy has hit the poor struggling spanks. I feel for them, really I do.

If the advantage isn't quite clear it's bc of the same reasons the yanks aren't in the ws every year, they simply aren't a good org. With the FA's, ability to hide mistakes, the international market, the ability to never let a player go they want to keep, the abuse of the FA draft compensation rules and so much more, it's hilarious they haven't even been to the big game in years.

Or it's just not as big a difference as you'd like to believe it is. The Red Sox and Mets have a massive advantage over the rest of the league too. The Mets haven't done jack shit with it and the Red Sox haven't until recently either. And when the Yanks won their recent championships it was because of developing talent and smart trades. The only time I can remember in MLB when a team "bought" it's way to a championship was the Marlins first WS win.
I'm not saying the Yanks don't have an advantage over every other team but it's not enough to overcome everything else they can't control. They are always going to pick late in the draft and that puts them at a disadvantage with the majority of their farm system. And going out and buying free agents who because of the way the free agent system works are past their prime for the most part is not going to be good enough to build a championship team around.
