I always felt gypped. (No offense to all you gypsies out there.)
My "middle name" is just my mom's maiden name so I have two last names. I want a real one.
So give me one.

That stinks! You should pick one and legally change your name. Or tell people you go by your middle name and pick a name you like.

You could always go catholic and get Confirmed...Just saying....
I always felt sorry for relatives born in the late 70's early 80's (I dunno why), that were given their mother's Maiden names as their first names...must have been a trend at the time...Condron, Godwin,Terris, Baker, Page, and the topper...Dobrinski!

Yeah my mom was all about the girl power. I was born in '78 so she wanted me to have both last names. Boo.

very nice papa, Rose is the second part of mine as well.. and btw, your daughters face looks a little like a red headed lady in one of your old family pictures, only much prettier. i'm too lazy to seek out the thread.

I got "Francis," which is the equivalent of being Charlie Brown and getting a rock for Halloween in terms of being given a middle name.

None of the old family pics have my daughter in them. I think the only pics I've posted of her are in the "our kids" and "(not) going blind" threads. But she is very pretty, of course.

My mom disarees with you.
My dad apparently wanted me to get his name, and his first name is "Francis." I would have also been a "the third" with that, too. My moms apparently put her foot down and said he could have the middle name.
WHIPPED.

Boring Saint names curse my family...Paul, Joseph, Steven, Mary, Anne, and Etc.
I like odd saint names..Luce, Xavier, Pio, Gertrude, Honoria, Lorriane.....
or angels...Metatron, Colopatiron, Elemiah, Forcas, Forfax, Hamied.....
...

My sister's middle name is Frances. She hates it.
We chose our own Confirmation Names, though ... mine is offbeat; hers is conventional.
Mine is Mary Paul.
Hers is Maria.
Can you tell she wants to be Italian?
And don't ask me if I wanted to be a nun.
We chose our own Confirmation Names
Actually, I recently thought about making a thread about that.

Actually, I recently thought about making a thread about that.
It's a lot of fun to talk to other Catholics about what their Confirmation names were, but I don't know how many other denominations have a corollary, so the thread and posting in it would be unintentionally exclusionary.
I've known people who've then used their Confirmation names as their middle name ... like my mother and 5 of her 6 siblings.
I don't have a middle name.. nobody in my family does.. confirmation name = Michael

BTW, mine was Paul too. He was the first Saint who came to mind. I should have chosen some obscure name.

I grew up Episcopalian (Catholic-lite) and I got confirmed in 7th grade, but we didn't pick names. Difference in tradition I guess.

I feel ya... I always tell people we were poor and could not afford middle names... lol
which makes no sense whatsoever but I always get an "aaah"
lol
My sister, my cousins.... we all have no middle names, it was not common during the times we were born... so we go without...
My mom and my dad both have middle names, the weird thing is my mom's middle name is her main name.. as the name underlined on the birth certificate is officially the calling name...
I am starting to understand people who say us Germans are weird.
Oh and for Aggie... I suggest "Aggie Horny" kinda sounds like angry horny and that's klinda hot

What? Like Aloysius?
I chose "Mary Paul" after Mary-sister-of-Lazarus who sat at Jesus' feet to listen to his preaching while her sister Martha bustled around fixing dinner and "Paul" after St. Paul for his about-face from persecutor to "Apostle to the Gentiles" ... I was at a rough spot in my life (16 always is) and wanted to be a better person.

Definitely different tradition.
And, depending on the parish within whatever Diocese, Catholics can be Confirmed as young as 12 or 13 (6th or 7th grade) ... in my parish, we waited for Sophomore year of high school (or later, depending on the kid/parents.)
What? Like Aloysius?
Exactly. Or St. Epiphanius the Peacemaker.

Exactly. Or St. Epiphanius the Peacemaker.

(That's been my dad's default for quite some time ... for our cats. He calls all our cats "Ignatz" ... *sigh*)
