I dropped off my friends mother at her house and as she was getting out of my car, she must have hit the door locks and when I went back to the car, the doors were locked and the car is running! I thought I had a spare key hidden under the car, but I can't find it and I called my father for help, but he doesn't have the spare key. I remembered I have roadside assistance though AT&T and I called them and the guy should be here within an hour. All el freebo! How much would you tip the guy? Or would you?

same thing happened to me the last time i went snowboarding. when i was done with the day, i went to turn on my car to warm it up as i was getting changed and hit the door lock instead of door unlock for the rest of the doors. i tipped the guy ten bucks.

make some creepy threads while you wait

Yeah, throw the guy 10 bucks.

And I can't tell you how glad I am that my car will not allow you to lock the doors while the key is in the ignition unless you do it with another key. I had a bad habit of automatically hitting the door locks while I was warming it up.

They make cars that will lock the doors while the car is running? You must be driving an antique.

Crossweird

Wait- they make cars that don't let you lock while it's running? What about kids in the backseat? And scary neighborhoods? And scary kids in the backseat?

I almost hit an elk , and to avoid him went off the road and got stuck. AAA was there in a half-an-hour and got me out of there.

Amazing! The guy showed up about ten minutes after my last post and had the door opened in seconds! I gave him a $10 tip and he was happy and on his way. Thank you AT&T!

10 minutes? He was probably reading that Hot Chick thread.

What happened was my friends mother is blind, and I had the car running and went around to help her out and assist her to her house, and as she was leaning on the door ledge to steady herself, she must have hit the power lock as she was standing up, and she closed the door. Thank god I had my cell in my pocket and not in the car! Usually I have a spare key in a magnetic box hidden under the car, but I couldnt find it and I think it must have fallen off or something during the snow. I will have to make a copy of the key and buy another box soon.

it's a 2.99 / month option on their plan

Yeah, mine do, too. But then they unlock when I put it in park.

oh, ok.

still, makes you wonder who came up with the idea of a telephone company getting into the automotive assistance business.

not sure, but before the whole mobile business weren't they called car phones? And people are always on the go and I bet it is cheaper than on star

definitely tip.
since gvac's thread on tipping i find myself tipping everyone down to the gas pump guy.

funny thing is.... the gas pump guy really seems to sincerely appreciate it. so it feels better to tip instead of leaving without throwing the guy a couple of bucks.

so yeah... tip everyone, and shop at mom and pop stores... or you will feel selfish.

when I first came here I always tried to tip the gas pump guy and they all refused it. They actually told me they were not allowed to take it.

My car won't lock if you try to lock the open driver door, but it will if you lock the open passenger door. That's what happened to Blackbird.

Blackbird's To Do List

1. Get new copy of key lost in snow
2. Get box for said key
3. Make more creepy posts on Blackberry while on the side of the road
4. Spend more time with friend's disabled parents
5. Renew AAA
6. Tell poster with a religious icon name and Bob Weir avatar to F off

Glad it worked out and thanks for being a Good Samaritan

I'll be using my AT&T roadside assistance for the first time tomorrow. On Friday, my oil light came on. I'm having it towed to a shop in the morning to have it checked out. AT&T requires that the phone be at the same location as the car, so I have to be there at 8 or 9AM. They pay up to $50 for the towing. If my car's engine isn't OK, I'm royally FUCKED.

Update. I called the AT&T roadside assistance line this morning. They got there in less than 15 minutes. The tow was totally covered. Bonus... Turns out the car was fine. The oil light must have just been a fluke.

To quote Blackbird, "Glad I have Roadside Assistance".

Roadside head along with Road head is fantastic. Just wanted to add that.

Triple A sometimes can be overly ridiculous. They take 2+ hours, at times, to get to a pick up. I haven't had to deal w/ this personally, thank God. I would NEVER pay for a service that functions as ineffciently as the gov't workings of New Jersey!

I used my AT&T roadside assistance again last night. I'd been putting off changing my front brakes for way too long. They ended up getting locked up in the middle of nowhere last night. Turns out, the tow guy lived just down the road, so he got there in less than 5 minutes! Once again, even though he towed me about 15 miles in the middle of the night, it was completely covered.

My motorhome and pickup truck are covered via Good Sam's Club (RV company) for about 40 bucks a year. I have never used it yet but my older motorhome is a 1976 (see signature) and it would cost well over a $100 to tow if it broke down or got a flat tire etc.
