Or is it "patriot" cheese?

I've bought 99 cent packs of american cheese and it's had some nutritional value (15% calcium per slice, but high in fat). I thought all 99 cent packs of cheese were made the same. I was SO SO wrong!

I bought the 99 cent Tropical cheese. IT HAS NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE WHATSOEVER (at least the Shoprite brand has calcium!). And it won't melt when you make a grilled cheese sandwich. Yes, I grew up in the mean streets of Nassau County, LI and I'm eating cheese that has less nutritional value than govmint cheese!

I know we're all trying to save money, but look at the nutrition labels people!!!!

sometimes it's worth comparing the per pound price from the wrapped pre-packaged cheese to the one freshly cut at the deli counter... you may get a better deal there

My mortgage payment is so low that I'd pretty much kill myself if I couldn't pay for it. Of course, I'd have to rent a garage to run my car engine to do it.

I can so see where this is going........

I like good cheese.
I wouldn't know what a good cheese is at the store, but I've stumbled across 'em accidentally.
From time to time.

P.S. If your internet explorer suddenly says "IM VIRUS DOCTOR AND U HAVE INFECTIONS THAT NEED FIXING CLICK OK TO GET A FREE SCAN" that likely is a bad thing to click ok on. Ditto if your 99 cent cheese comes with that message.

I COMPLETELY understand. I thought I was adding some calcium to my diet (albeit with some fat).

I have to turn my head when I pass the gourmet cheese case. I LERVE myself some nicely smoked Gouda.

Yeah, what exactly is "american" cheese? I was so turned off by Kraft slices when I was a kid, but I can eat Cheddar, etc.

Well, WikiPedia to the rescue:

American cheese is a common processed cheese. It is orange, yellow, or white in color and mild in flavor, with a medium-firm consistency, and melts easily. It has traditionally been made from a blend of cheeses, most often Colby and Cheddar. Today’s American cheese is generally no longer made from a blend of all-natural cheeses, but instead is a processed cheese (i.e., it is manufactured from a set of ingredients[1] such as milk, whey, milkfat, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, salt) which meets the legal definition of cheese.

That's terrible. I'm sorry.

when I was in a fancy food court in DOWNTOWN massena new york as a kid I remember purchasing pizza because all the signs above the logo read: "100% AMERICAN CHEEZE". I said to myself that's gotta be good because all the pizza places are stressing it so much. It's fancy like it's imported but it's not because I'm in the land of the import, fancy.

I tried to eat the whole slice but I couldn't finish it because it was so salty.

As far as I can tell American cheese is just regular cheeze but just wth tonnes of salt in it. Watch out france.

yep, american cheese is whatever is left over from making real cheese.

look at Canadian TV ads for any fast food company, it says "made with processed cheese"

I am sure it is the same stuff we get here in the states

It's too late for my soul. My company already ripped that out and now all I have to fill the vast emptiness is processed cheese food (washed down with fruit "beverage".)
