I absolutely love Jimmy... but I am confused why he continues to do stand up (or is it sit down) while on the couch rather than be his funny self without screened jokes... he seems to space out in thought trying to fill in all the jokes planned rather than have a hilarious interaction with Leno or other guests, I think it could have been ten times more funny if he made more jokes with Julia...
He seems to be more relaxed though these days, he used to appear way more tense and nervous on the show in the past.

I agree katja. Maybe it is nerves or something, but I just listened to the Leno audio earlier and he wouldn't shut up at all. Just kept spounting off stories back to back to back. Leno was like "good job.......thanks jim" when it ended. it was funny, but in no way an interview at all.

that's why I am wondering if he is supposed to do stand up.. just not on stage? Julia was more herself except for that little joke she told that was "staged" and she stunk at it

I think Leno's interviews are, by and large, far more set up in advance and "staged" than any of the other shows.

I mean, they all are, but it's way easier to tell what they set up in advance on Leno than Letterman, Conan, or Ferguson's shows.

They held a quick vote on who was the handsomest boy on stage and Jimmy won by a 2:1 margin

but even if, you just don't get the feel of an interview... it's Leno announcing him (and he said he is on the most successful morning show on satellite radio of all times) them sitting down and after the initial hello it was all Jimmy "performing" and Jay barely saying a word in between...

i would have expected him to do a few minutes of real stand-up, but they didn't do that. he just sat down like a regular guest (like a real star that is there to chat, not to perform), but it was obvious that the entire "conversation" was scripted. i'm sure with someone like Yimmy, NBC has to pre-approve whatever he's going to say. still, he got in a few good quips about elaine bennis.

all in all, i think he killed it

Yimmy is becoming to Leno what Dangerfield was to Carson.

Do you think they'd let Jimmy on at 10 PM, though? I think he can tone his material down enough for that, but the suits might be a bit worried about it.

Plus, he might not be a big enough name for prime time.

Yeah he'll be on, 10 is still pretty late and yimmy's Tonight show shtick ain't that dirty.

Prime time? there wasn't anything bigger than the tonight show, if anything it's a lesser medium.
