Why do I listen to this show every day? I almost never laugh at the show anymore. Let's face it--it's just not very funny. I'm sick of Fez being third mic, the incessant sports/baseball talk, Ron constantly referring to something that's happening on Paltalk ("that Babygirl sure is showing it off today")--most of us normal people who listen, believe it or not, don't live on Paltalk, or even know what it is...I'm sick of Ron entertaining calls and in-studio appearances by all these messageboard losers, sycophants, hangers-on and creeps. The show is excruciatingly inside. It didn't used to be this way.
And how did the show get turned into a three-hour infomercial these past couple months? Why did these live reads start, and are they ever going to end? I don't think Fez is well enough to do the show anymore. I think he has some very difficult issues he needs to work through, and I empathize with him. I don't think it helps him mentally to be making his living these days as the perpetual butt of everyone's jokes. This show is too dysfunctional to be funny or entertaining anymore. At one time, that was part of the charm...but it's gone to such an extreme that more than anything else, I feel empty and kind of sad, and a little bit cheated, when the show ends each day.
The Ron and Fez show is not funny anymore. I've been listening since the first overnight replay years ago on WJFK. It saddens me to see this show at such a loss. I hope Fez gets the help he needs and can find some amount of peace in his life. But I truly believe the show is not a positive or healthy thing for him at this particular time in his life.
Sadly, I'm still listening, despite everything I've said. But more and more, I've been wondering "why?"...

Sadly.
If we post porn, we would just be banned for a short period and this would still carry on. That's the real sad part of it.

Is the show "funny" 100% of the time? No it's not but neither are a lot of the other shows radio or TV the fricking comedy channels on XM aren't "funny" all of the time. I have listened to R&F for 3 years now and I really don't think the show is meant to be some kind of forced funny all of the time and that's why I love listening to them. I listen to O&A and pretty much know what I am going to get and expect but very little on that show ever makes me think about things like how many little kids asses could I kick at one time or what makes someone a fan. I like the non-funny funny.

Boo Hoo Hoo. If you don't see Ron as trying to help Fez then you're crazy. If you don't see that Ron is trying to jump start him out of the funk he's in then you don't listen to the same show I listen too. I think instead of running the show down, you should try to see that Ron is constantly trying to jump start the show, and that Dave really deserves more credit than he gets as an on air personality. Fez needs to get out of his own way, ditch the shrink and embrace his own weirdness. Lot's of funny moments on the show lately. I have to disagree with this one.

A great point. I don't want forced shock, or set up jokes, and punchlines. The show is probably one of the most real things on radio. I want to go inside, and I appreciate them for all they put out there for the entertainment of others.

i don't agree that the show isn't funny anymore. i still get quite a few laughs every day.
i have a question, though. in the OP, he talks about how fez is always the butt of a joke. it is usually funny, but he is right. fez gets dumped on a lot, all ron-psychology aside.
i did most of my listening during the WNEW and FreeFM days. but i just want to know when calling fez an outright homo or having him openly acknowledge his sexuality started. i always remember that callers or guests or ron would hint at it, with fez making a joke by pretending not to understand - point and case, "homo says, 'what?''

Fez does end up the butt of a lot of jokes, and he's well aware that this is his role sometimes. He's the fall guy when he has to be. The show has a dynamic, Ron is top dog, Fez is sometime on equal footing, sometimes he's on the receiving end of some ribbing.
But there's a BIG difference between what he takes in jest from Ron and the other staffers to an extent, and the when the fucking hayseeds start calling in with their Fez bashing dogshit.
"Oooh, if I get Fez to cry I get in the prize closet!" Yea, go fuck yerself insead Cletus.

I still find myself laughing a lot.
One thing that has improved lately is the back and forth between ESD and Fez. For a long time it seemed as if they either took turns interacting w/Ron, or simply backed up Ron if he was breaking the other ones balls. The past few weeks (maybe months) it seems like there is more interaction between them, in both agreements and disagreements.

I laugh constantly, I love what these guys do.
As I have stated before this show is very unique, like nothing else on radio. Great mix of personalities and presentation. You have to really listen, sometimes more than once.
Like nothing else being broadcast anywhere:thumbup:

I'm talking about their reputation as notorious scam artists based in Butte, Montana.
That, and the rampant ass-fucking.
Being somewhat of a new listener, I really don't have much to compare it to. But the show seems funny enough to me that I got a year long Audible sub to it to catch more of it
And it seems with any radio show, the novelty goes away after a while and people start reminiscing about the "old days." That's certainly the case for the other two comedy shows I catch on a consistent basis, Howard and Bubba. Hell, it only took until 2007 or 2008 until people were bitching that the shows were going downhill as far as Bubba goes. And with Stern people bitch about him sucking since Jackie left or whatever but still listen for whatever reason.
Someone I talked to on another forum about this referred to it as "regular listener syndrome," where people will eventually turn on their favorite radio show, TV show, etc. due to overexposure. You tend to build up such an idealized vision of your favorite show, that after a while it can't possibly live up to that standard and the novelty of the show wears off.
