Matty's Adventures in Grill Buying, Part 2 (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=50077)
So. The second grill we bought (The Kenmore from Sears) got destroyed in 2007 due to bad weather and flooding, and I promised Liz we would get a new BBQ grill with the house. Especially since the house has a brick patio with a really cool niche for a BBQ grill.
The thing was, I really, REALLY wanted a Weber grill. I was sick of buying these plastic-construction crappy grills. My entire family has Webers.
We started looking at Home Depot at Webers, and I realized that you wouldn't be able to get one for less than 400 bucks.
So I made my budget, and was just waiting for the weather to get a little warmer before I bought.
On a hunch, I went to one of my favorite websites, www.slickdeals.net - and ran a search for "Weber" just to see if I was missing anything.
Turns out Home Depot was having a Black Friday style sale today.
I went in to my local HD last night to confirm they had the grills... and they did... but the manager was like, "get here when we open tomorrow... we're expecting huge lines and we only have a few."
Remembering what Black Friday is like, I heeded his advice. I went to bed early last night, and woke up at 5 freaking A.M. so I could get to the store when they opened. Even though I have a huge meeting today... I showered, dressed, and drove to my local HD...
And I was the only person there. Ugh.
But in the long run, it was worth it - I got my Weber grill for 50% off - $200.
Now I can make hot dogs and undercooked hamburgers for Drusilla.
Of course, I'll probably pass out at my meeting now.

you know at the end of the year target sells awesome grills for 50-75% off...
I can't believe you worried people would line up on a work day to buy stuff at HD, especially with the event being barely promoted...
Should have consulted .net for advice !

propane or ng ?
your not a real man until you run the ng line for the ultimate in gas grilling.
srsly. takes like, 2 hours to do. well worth it. fuck propane.
you can order the conversion kit from weber. or, the new grills may already be able to run either gas.

nice grill... 3 burners. sweet. i have the old genesis silver-a. 2 burners. blah.
lp or ng ?
also... the porcelin flavorizer bars will eventually rust away. swap them out for the stainless ones when they do.
regardless of how much they mock you, getting up ass early put $200 in your pocket.
well done. buy liz some filet with the savings and cook it how she likes it as a treat.

Both grills were primarily plastic construction. The first one didn't make the move with us to our second apartment, and the second one was messed up after a nor'easter/flood deal in 2007.

Weber always lasts, that's been my experience. I have an old charcoal grill I bought like 5 years ago that still fucking works great, leave it out all year. It ain't pretty but it ain't a piece of shit yet either. The grill cleans up every season, the grating isn't rusted, pretty nice quality.

Ya know I feel lucky mine even works some days....I see these platinum grills and really deep inside I wish I had one..Then I think about when I was younger just cooking on a grill not thinking about a name(Brand) or my neighbors grill Or how nice it is........Been doing that a lot lately it does help in these times .....I'm just happy for what i have...

I bought a new grill this year, an 18 inch charcoal Weber. I have a smaller Weber I have had for 8 years that is still kicking. I had the thing sitting outside of my townhouse when I lived in DC, and other than a little rust and the smell of homeless guy piss it is in great shape.
I think charcoal grills are better than gas for some many reasons. They last longer, food tastes much better, simple to maintain, list goes on.
I have a neighbor with one of the huge built into the deck gas grills. He spends more getting the stupid thing serviced than I spent on my Weber and a years supply of charcoal.
