I am really beginning to think there is a problem with Netflix. They got a great selection of films right, everything. And you get your films in two days. They are fast. So you're all excited to sit down and watch something. In my case today it was Heart of Darkness. Then, as expected, the disc jammed up started skipping and stopped in place, or goes back and repeats a scene. It didn't surprise me because this has been happening on every disc lately. Most people treat discs like shit is why. It's not the DVD player. I can't be the only one having these problems.

I guess I haven't had the same problems. In the four years I've been on Netflix, there's been maybe 3 or 4 that wouldn't play. I just marked the damaged box on the paper case, and they've sent me a replacement in a couple of days.

That is lame. Only thing you can do is complain and they'll replace it, but that doesn't give you the movie you wanted now. Keep complaining and they'll probably credit you or some shit but that doesn't remedy the problem either.

I would think checking the DVDs they get back would be priority 1. That's lost money, they should fine the guy who scratches the shit out of their discs.

Scott loves to get the replacements

I know a buddy of mine lives by Netflix. Gets like 5 fucking discs in at a time, burns them and sends all 5 back the same day. I never heard him bitch at all, but I'm not the one renting them. I think he'd bitch if he kept getting discs that wouldn't read in his computer, so your experience may be somewhat isolated.

If you live in a place that doesn't have a blockbuster/hollywood video, netflix is a godsend. i've had 3 or 4 dvds that haven't worked, but overall im really happy with the service. i recommend it constantly, probably more so than satellite radio.

Any rental place is going to have some worn out product. I've found that Netflix is a million times better in that regard than the local stores or Blockbuster.

Amazon and TiVo Offer Video On-Demand Service

you can get a box now and order any movie you want, i think netflix is on board with their own model that works with tivo or dvr.

digital downloads will replace rental dvds soon i think.

Do you have to wait for the movie to download before you can watch it? If it is a streaming movie, are there big lag times for slower connections?

I agree 100% Moe. People treat these discs like crap. I have one more movie to check out. It is a replacement of one that was nearly cracked down middle.

its a high speed download (although i don't have it personally, i have a brother that does) i think you can start watching while it is downloading but not sure. he orders what he wants and watches it when he wants. can even buy the download if you want for a few bucks more. it is cool as hell, he has verison vios and movies download really fast.

There's a couple of blu-ray players that just came out with Netflix streaming built in.

Yea I feel your pain bro. When you get shit replacement for a shit original it just feels like they don't even care. And the problem is they don't. You know how it is, the volume they do is enough, they don't have to do customer service.

My point is I feel your pain and frustration, but you're not going to get much from Netflix without a long phone call that will not be worth what they will give you for free.

But yes, there is no more customer service left in America.

No HD yet, though. That's what I hate. I think Amazon is close, though.

Within 5 years. That's why I don't switch to Blu Ray. My DVD's will be antiquated soon enough, I don't want to have to do the same with Blu Ray.

I've never had a problem with Netflix, it's actually one of my favorite companies that I've ever patronized. I'm not downplaying that you had a problem or anything but I've always had a great experience with them as a customer.

Well, the movie I'm watching now is good, so maybe it was a bad streak, a long bad streak.

Same here. I think I've only had one problem - and that was the wrong movie in the right sleeve when I opened it, but I told them the problem and had the right movie 2 days later.

It's cool man. No one is saying you don't have a right to be pissed, just the company seems to work pretty well.

I would say if you're really pissed send an E-mail or call and try to get some credit to your account, you deserve it. But that's only if you feel the time on the phone is worth it.

I know it doesn't make up for it but it's all you can really do.

Heh, I knew you'd know all about this one bro.

Dude, how fucking ANNOYING is it keeping up with the latest programs to overcome the latest anti-piracy shit? I see my buddy having the problem all the time. Funny part is these fucking programs that help you steal DVDs are making it harder and harder to steal their programs. Fuckin hypocrites!

CloneDVD2 is an awesome program to use, simple, lets you cut out the previews, etc. I also have a copy of DVDXCopy Platinum... Yea, that one.

Combine my dual core Opterons and I am a copying fool.

I've had DVD shrink for years and it still gets around the anti-piracy garbage.

Oh. Then I will point him in the direction of this thread and see if he's heard of the software you guys just listed. He always seems to be trying to download and crack some new DVD program and I have no idea why. He's good at this shit too, I guess he might just be using the wrong programs.

It's weird how most of the discs from netflix that would skip or just not play in my player were able to be copied with minimal effort. I guess the DVD drives have better lasers or something? I cancelled my subscription a long time ago, I had way too many DVD-R discs floating around.

Not that I copy movies illegally, just make back ups for just in case purposes.

I love Netflix! They've got all kinds of obscure and old movies that I didn't think anyone would have, much less have heard of. I always type in a title, thinking they won't have it, and "boom" there it is! Amazing! Of course, I'm easily amazed.....

Netflix is on board with this - they're player was developed by Roku. It costs $100 to buy and so long as you maintain your netflix subscription you can stream any of the watch instantly content on your TV.
Amazon just worked out a deal with Roku and now there is an Amazon channel on my roku where I can rent/buy digital content from amazon.
Currently Roku and TiVo do not have a deal. There are rumors of Roku and Hulu, however.

Do you have to wait for the movie to download before you can watch it? If it is a streaming movie, are there big lag times for slower connections?

The movie loads in under a minute and is just about DVD quality (you wouldn't notice the difference - I project from the Roku and there is a negligible difference in quality). So long as you have a cable modem and stable connection you will never see it stopping to buffer or whatever.

There is now an HD option on the Roku though Netflix. (I didn't quote it but someone said there isn't yet).

Probably some guy just trying tob reach his quota not checking the discs before sending em out.

And with cable set to make bandwidth caps only people with fios will be freely enjoying on demand internet feeds.
