What are you doing when you’re waiting for something within a straightened assemblance of people?

You’re waiting IN line.

What the hell is with this term, waiting On line? To me that conjures up thoughts of frustration regarding the wait one faces downloading porn or posting on message boards.

Is this a regional thing like soda and/or pop?

I think it might be. Although I think I've used both, but I'm more apt to say "waiting IN line."

"In line" is the phrase I use for expressing the idea, "standing in a queue;" "on line" is the phrase I use for being "conneted to the Internet"

Why do you drive on a parkway yet park on a driveway?

I only starting noticing people saying "I was standing on line for tickets" when I moved to NY.

Its wrong, immoral and should be banned. (the phrase not me, NY or moving)

A group of people waiting for tickets, door to open, or brothel are forming a line...hence they are standing in line. I guess if you were waiting at the DMV and following one of those colored lines on the floor you could say "I'm standing on line" but if you're forming a line...you'd be in line on a line. So either way knock it off. Stand in a line, look at .net online.

Now, if we're ready to move on to the Soda vs Pop debate I'm ready for that as well.

I actually say in queue, but I also call the refrigerator an icebox so I really shouldn't be taken seriously.

In line.

It also makes me think of people who say that they "ought to set down" because they are tired instead of sit.

But I think that is a midwest/south thing.

If your feet smell and your nose runs are you built upside down?

What the hell is with this term, waiting On line?

Was worried about waiting on line to see her brother -- like everybody else.

See, now sadly this gives the term "on line" some validation
