The duck pond at the national zoo is fun too. We live a few blocks from it and go there for walks early before the tourists show up. Some of my favorites are:

The golden tamarin monkeys free in the trees
The prairie dogs
The pandas
Feeding the sloth bears
The gibbons going crazy swinging and screaming
The orangutans doing the crazy outdoor walkway - i've seen it 3 times
