...backgammon.
I literally have no clue what the rules are, the object, don't know a thing about it.

There are a lot of board/card game I've never played and have no idea where to begin when it comes to the rules.
But I did used to be pretty good at Backgammon when I was younger. It's my mother's favorite board game.
I used to play a lot in the 80's..I don't think I could play without coke, though.

Croquet - ditto
Field hockey - it's a chick sport

Yhatzee...never learned how to play it. Or spell it.
My parents were anti-tv, so we played all sorts of card games, dice games, board games. By the time my brother and I hit college, we could role the other kids in the dorms for $$$. Although, because we never had Sega, we got our asses kicked anytime there was a Techno-Bowl tournament. Cribbage, Chess, and Backgammon seemed archaic next to that.

I've never played dominoes either.
I must rectify these shortcomings immediately, if not sooner.

What the fuck is cribbage?
Is it a card game?
I find card playing slightly less interesting than watching paint dry.

You disappoint me more each day.
A game of strategy and brainpower, coupled with the luck of the draw....it may be the perfect card game.

For strategy and brainpower I prefer chess.

My dad taught me cribbage at a young age and we played a lot growing up. In turn I taught my kids too, we all enjoy it. I never considered it snooty. Hell, my dad used to get together with my uncles and cousins and break out the scotch and play cribbage till the wee hours.

Snoogans talked about Chess. I would like to learn it but there is not a single person in the circle of people I know that knows anything about it. Seeing it played in demonstration videos does nothing to teach it. I have a feeling the only way I could ever learn it would be to take a class on it at a community center, if they have it.

i've never used it before, but just doing some quick research this site (http://www.chessguru.net/) seems to be a decent place to learn. after you're even a little proficient you can play on facebook, yahoo, etc. if you want to throw a few bucks into it, there are programs or sites where you can learn that are more interactive.
