View Full Version : Would you donate your seed?

I guess this question is more for the ladies because its a much more thorough and intrusive process but would you donate your egg? Guys, your sperm?

You know the typical story: "We are hoping to find a special person who wants to help bring the blessing of a child into our lives." It's usually a couple that has been trying to conceive that needs some help with the miracle of life. And they need you.

And to top it off, you women can make some fat cash, between $4,000 and $10,000. Men, I believe, get $40 for a donation of sperm. Not exactly equal compensation but it's probably justified with the risk and process of acquiring either.

Could you handle going through life knowing that a person exists because of you and is created in your likeness but you will not have any contact with them? Having no rights to a child you helped create. Is there a price for your fertility?

And another question for the ladies, could you go a step further and pull a Juno and conceive for a couple who could not?

First dude to make the 'i have a tube sock worth $60,000 under my bed' joke gets banned.

i'd love too. but i would have some extreme guilt about passing along my retardation to the next generation.

It would depend on if I knew the couple/woman and knew the details of their situation.

And since when are you banning people?

From what I've heard, it can actually be kind of dangerous for women, so I think that's the biggest issue for them. As for me, I already know I give great kid, so I'd have no problem at all having a bunch of anonymous PapaBears running around.

No, can't do it. I would find the idea of possibly having a kid out there that I don't know about disturbing. Speaking of money, I have a tube sock worth $60,000 under my bed. Ba-duh-bump. :innocent:

If you're being paid then it isn't really a donation.

That's how I always felt when I used to "donate" plasma.

That's it exactly. When I was younger and had no kids, I could have donated twice a day every day without giving it a second thought. But now that I have seen what my seed can produce, I don't think I could deal with knowing that somewhere out there there is a child because of my sperm and I can't have anything to do with the up bringing.

...and, yes I would.

Mullenax

I'd do it but I have never really gotten the details on exactly how intrusive the process is, wether or not I'd be laid up in the hospital for over a week, potential scarring, and if there were any after-care procedures that I'd be fiscally responsible for.

PROS

$$$$. It would feel nice to know I helped some barren lady.

CONS

Fear of getting pregnant while I'm on fertility drugs and off the pill pre-donation. I think the process dictates at least three months of pill-free and amped up fertility. I do not think I could pull a Juno.

hammersavage
05-04-2009, 09:26 AM
Yea, Juno just seems like way too much commitment. I mean, you are putting your health on the line much more. And then physically having it then handing it away, that seems impossible.

I can see donating an egg... never thought about it but it is an easy thing to give up. I think it is different once life is conceived and grows inside my womb, that's where I could not see myself giving that child up in any way.

I am seriously considering that now to get me through my upcoming unemployment time

looks I have only very few good years left in me
1) age between 21 and 32 years, 2) good general health, 3) no significant medical problems, 4) no current or prior history of drug abuse or sexually transmitted diseases, 5) non-smoker, and 6) successful completion of the psychological evaluation.

retrieving an egg is a painful process. If people want kids there are plenty to be adopted. My tubes are tied because my husband said NO MORE KIDS. If he donated his sperm I would be plenty pissed! I am this awesome wife that had my tubes tied so he wouldn't have to go through the painful process of vasectomy and have his "manhood taken away". I couldn't do the Juno thing because I have already carried 2 kids. It is a wonderful experience and creates such a bond, I couldn't imagine giving him/her up to another family.

1) age between 21 and 32 years.. I took that real-age test and it said i was 12
2) good general health.. Check
3) no significant medical problems.. Check
4) no current or prior history of drug abuse or sexually transmitted diseases.. Does this include marijuana?
5) non-smoker.. Check
6) successful completion of the psychological evaluation.. Oh well.. I highly doubt I'd ever consider this anyway. :annoyed:

When donating, does the other party have to willingly accept?

IF so, I'm already a donor.

Not necessarily. Just because you donate sperm doesnt mean they use it. Or that it works the first time.

I just look at it like I would for selling blood. Its a way to help people and make a few bucks on the side. Im not gonna worry about whos got my blood flowing through their veins.

I might be opening up the floodgates of my own ignorance, but do you think it's possible to fake being Jewish, even with the family history questions?

They probably would expect you to have a hooked nose, curly hair, and big boobs. You can't just fake that
