I think that's about the same time I quit watching, maybe just a little bit earlier. The story lines got so hack and tired that it wasn't worth watching anymore.

a friend of mine's brother went to Wrestling School, but decided to get a 9-5 job after.

Could it be all of the horror stories that have come out over the last decade that have driven the young talent away?
Hell, you have multiple deaths, ruined joints, McMahon turning his back on you and making your life hell, etc. Maybe they don't feel like taking a huge risk with their bodies, lives, and livelihood to take a 100 to 1 shot at being a Pro-Wrestler.
***Edit - and now that WWE is essentially the only game in town, if you don't make it there you are scrounging for a living traveling around the country with some minor outfit. That's a hell of a thing.

I think two of the blue collar jobs that is still going strong is plumbing and heating and electrician. Kids are not encouraged to go into that field, they are pushed into college. It used to be that people went to vocational high schools if they were going that route, now every kid is encouraged to get a regular diploma and go to college. Makes me wish I would have fought my dad more and went into plumbing (like he did), I'd have a sweet business going right now. But my dad was afraid that I would be pushed around since I'm a girl.

I work in IT and one of our main functions is to increase the work done by less people with more technology, so we can increase the size of IT and decrease the size of the customer service. But we make a lot more money than the customer service folks.
