This morning I turn on my phone after charging it/having it die on me the day before. The phone tells me "SIM card not detected" So I take out the battery and take a look at the SIM card and I see................ that it's broken in half and taped back together. What???????????//////// That's fucked up. So that means someone in my house or at my work took out my battery and accidentally/purposely broke the SIM card in half in the process. Then tried to cover it up by taping it back together and cutting the tape to conform to the card's edges.

The thing is, I cant imagine who would do this. When im home the phone is in my bedroom with me, whether im on my computer posting on this site or sleeping.... And I wouldnt think someone in my house would do that, atleast while Im home.

Other idea is, I bring it to work and leave it by my computer for the day and someone could have done it there. But I am in and out of that office regularly, and I dont think the 3 other people who work in that office would do that. Plus we have a camera,,, my boss offered to burn the video to a cd and let me watch it, but im really not interested in watching 8 hrs of tape (also against company policy)

Not really a question , it's just one of the weirdest thing's that's happened to me in a while. I went to the AT&T store and they replaced the card for free........ which is the only good part of this story. It's uncomfortable trying to claim "I didnt break the card in half and try to tape it back together like an idiot, I swear"

Maybe someone knocked the phone on the floor and it all kind of came apart and they went to put it back together before you found out, and in the process, discovered that the card broke. Whoever would do that must know something about the importance of the sim card. Think about anyone who knows about that stuff and is in proximity to the phone and you will narrow your list of suspects.

(ps: It was not me)

The phone cant be knocked off my desk easily, I basically keep it behind the computer, someone had to have been fucking with it. Plus, it's very difficult to get the back cover off, AND the battery out AND then open up the metal thing that holds the sim card in....... all by accident

But I got to keep the broken sim card, so I will display it in the office and see if anyone says something

Is the card totally useless? Maybe there are pictures on it that someone wanted destroyed...

Stop making yourself the primary suspect.

The only way I could see this happening is if someone was trying to steal your SIM and snapped it while trying to take it out of its slot.

I rotate phones like a maniac and pop the SIM in and out almost daily, so I'm an expert at it, but some phones are tricky and an inexperienced person could easily snap it trying to get it out.

The only reason someone would want it is either to steal your numbers or use your account to make calls.

Creepy.

only a drunk person or a child would tape it back together, do you know any drunks or kids? or maybe some drunk kids?

Maybe it was always broken and the tape on there finally just gave? I don't know, I've never taken my card out to look at it.

The only other scenario I can think of is that someone has the same SIM card, theirs broke and they switched it with your good one. Its kind of in depth and more trouble than its worth but then so is breaking yours, taping it up and putting it back without saying something.

Maybe somebody was playing basketball and knocked your phone off the sideboard.

That sounds like what could have happened. I just cant think of anyone I work with who would pull some shit like that. Also, I personally put the SIM card in myself when I bought the phone and it was together. Plus, this must've happend in the last few days because I know the card wouldnt have worked.... the circuit board was snapped in half, the tape was the only reason it was together. I would post a pic, but I left the card at work, on my desk, for everyone (and possibly the culprit) to gander at.
