Dr Steve, do doctors prefer patients with shaved genitals? I would think it make examining them less disgusting. Or, as doctors, are you guys completely oblivious to that stuff? Do you see people with weird tattoos and shavings and piercings that shock you? Also, let's say a really attractive woman comes in and you have to do an exam on her privates, do you struggle to control appearing aroused or do you turn the attraction off? Just curious.

Being that Dr. Steve is a Hospice Doctor, I doubt there are strange tattoos and piercings.

This is a great question. When I was doing full time rural family practice, I probably did 10 prostate exams, 3-4 breast exams, and a pelvic exam or two every day. Multiply that times 240 office days a week times 20 years and it's a shitload of assholes and genitals. I can't remember a single one of them, honestly.
.
Now, I do remember the occasional weird foreign body in the vagina case, or the dozen barbie-heads up the rectum, but for the most part I never paid any more attention to this stuff than if I was examining a knee.

I did once have an incredibly beautiful european woman just whip off her shirt in my office for no good reason (other than that's apparently how it's done in certain parts of europe (sign me up))...since there was no real clinical reason for this I do remember it, but that's the only one I can think of.

When we're training, we do one pap after another after another and one breast exam after another after another...it's really important to learn what "normal" feels/looks like so you can recognize something "abnormal" when you see/feel it.

Now, there are exceptions to this; doctors, dentists, therapists, teachers, etc., all have members who cross the line and get in trouble. Anthony does a great bit on the "I GOTTA HAVE THAT" switch that just goes off in some guys. For the most part, though, it's just part of the job.

I'd say, though, that if I was going to do a testicular exam on some guy and he had had a brazilian treatment and looked like a prepubescent boy, I'd probably remember that before I would someone with natural pubic hair. But that's just me.
