Everyone just wants something for nothing.
Dire Straits wanted money for nothing.

thats fucking bullshit. movies are expensive because of the times.
Popcorn and soda is expensive. Is it because they steal that too?
the only time i dont mind paying the price for a movie is when its in IMAX. i understand there is another set of filming techniques, etc. for getting the movie out there. other than that, $10 for a movie is rediculous.
as for the candy/popcorn stand, they can go suck a dick. i refuse to pay $4 for a 99 cent bag of candy. i have no problem putting a bag of chips and a can of soda in my purse to take to the show.

Technically, yes, unless it falls into a fair use exception, which I would argue that it does.
I'm not so sure about fair use. If it were only you and I seeing it, perhaps. There are thousands of people seeing the sigs. It is also something of an advertisement for ourselves.

I don't go to the movies anymore, but it has nothing to do with piracy. It has to do with cell phones, crying babies, and loud idiots who think they're funny when they talk to the screen.

We have a hypocritical society. Everyone wants a capitalistic system and wants to make a profit themselves, but many people get angry at the thought of someone else making a profit.
Which is why free healthcare and free chicken promos will never work here.

When Fergie was in Wild Orchid, they played here in Harrisburg. Allegedly two of them banged Ki-Jana Carter and Kyle Brady that night. At least that's what Kyle was telling people. Of course that was before he found Jebus and all that crap.

The PROs like ASCAP have studies, etc. to determine how often songs get played etc. and dole out the royalties they receive based on those studies.
I'm just hearing the replay now. You're comment above is correct.
It comes down to this: if bars/cubs etc use music to enhance their business and make money, then they should (and legally have to) pay a licensing fee which goes to writers. Writers slave over a piano or guitar or whatever to create a song. It's not asking too much for these venues to pay for what they're getting in return (increased business). Imagine how these bars would do with no music. It would be very lame.
ASCAP keeps their expenses extremely fucking low, which means the writers/publishers get a huge portion of the money. This is how a lot of writers make a living. Otherwise, they go work in an office and we have no more music.
With all due respect, it didn't seem that FM Jeff understood the conversation. He was angry at the record industry which has nothing to do with this topic.

I'm not allowed to create my own post yet so I decided to reply to this to ask. My good friend runs a website that has embedded API code that allows users to play music videos. He received an email from ASCAP today telling him he has to pay fees or face penalty. YouTube already pays tons of money to ASCAP and the videos are streamed directly from YouTube only embedded on his website. Should he tell them to go talk to YouTube? Or do you think he is liable to pay ASCAP fees?
