Dr. Steve, My wife is a PA and has been doing shadowing for a new career in Dermatology. She started buying some thing that a doctor told her would help an aging problem that is called TNS serum. It costs a fortune. In speaking with my wife, the reason it is expesive is that it is made from a growth hormone that is easily harvested from the discarded foreskins of newborns ( which is documenteded in the 100 plus page document that comes with the product) Is there anything that backs this up and where is the depository for Newborn Foreskin that this stuff comes from?

TNS serum is indeed pretty expensive. It contains "human fibroblast conditioned medium" in it. When you put fibroblasts (tissue construction cells) in a vial, they'll secrete proteins into the medium that stimulate cell growth in test tubes. I could not find a single study that shows that applying this stuff to the skin makes the skin somehow "younger" and less wrinkly. I could not find a study that absolutely refutes this claim, either. Just not a lot of data on it in the medical literature (that I could find...I'll keep looking and report back).

Oh, the foreskin thing. You can make culture medium out of one or two foreskins and if you can keep them alive, you can keep making "fibroblast conditioned medium". Baby cells are as young as you can get, so I'm sure they feel these are the "best" to make you "youthful". You can buy used foreskins from pathology labs that dispose of surgical tissue from circumcisions.

hope this helps,

your pal,

PS: can your wife answer this question for me? http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=81623

PPS: I did find this ominously titled article in the literature though: "Fibroblast-Mediated In Vivo and In Vitro Growth Promotion of Tumorigenic Rat Thyroid Carcinoma Cells but not Normal Fisher Rat Thyroid Follicular Cells."
