I have been sleeping like shit lately. A big part of it is the past few weeks of constant rain fucked with my back, and that fucks with my sleep

But alot of it is I have had so much shit on my mind that I lay down and cant shut it off. I tried music, TV, complete silence. I can't figure anything out. I got a new bed coming monday so that will help with the physical parts, but is there anything else I can fuckin try to get some sleep and worry about that shit the next day?

I've been there.
I wake up at 2 a.m. with crazy thoughts running through my head. Mostly thinking about the worst possible scenario that could happen at work. Then I toss and turn until it's time to wake up.
The best I can do is put on some mellow music and try to ride it out.

I used to be like that. Now I rely on benadryl, tylenol pm, or other various things to help me sleep. It sucks cause I still don't sleep, and when I do I just wake up groggy.

I have terrible thoughts in the middle of the night. About people I love dying, about my dog dying, about the girl I love fucking someone else, just terrible things.

Eventually my body gives up and I pass out. Best of luck, sir.

One thing I do that tires me out is I count to 100. Start at zero, and go to 100. But if while counting my mind drifts and I find myself on, let's say 29, and I don't remember counting up to it, I go back to zero. It tires you out.

I am usually out by the 3rd track.

I also try and run entire albums through my mind. I usually do Van Halen II. It keeps my mind occupied and helps me rest.

I never used to have a problem sleeping but now I fall asleep then wake up an hour later thinking it's morning. When I do get back to sleep I'm awake like every 1/2 hour then I get.my most sound sleep the last two hours or so and by afternoon I feel like I need a nap but seldom can stop. It sucks to get old.:(

Hold your breath as long as you can multiple times. It wont help with the thoughts, but it can help put you back to sleep.

Yeah. Adding alcohol to someone who is having anxiety related issues isn't the best move. I tried that a few times and wound up being wide awake and having a panic attack.

I don't know if you excercise or anything, but taking a long walk may help. It can clear your mind and also tire you out.

Bro, my mind works overtime a lot at night. I get racing thoughts and ideas and it bothers me a lot too, so just know you arent alone. I read books to try and get myself to focus on whatever though the writer wanted, and in this way, I let someone else focus me and then I can really relax. Try it. I got an iPod touch and they had this app in the app store called Classics and it had like 20 classic books for like a dollar or two and its so easy to read on it. This way you can do it wherever you are without lugging anything.

i fall asleep at night usually within 1 minute...but at about 3am I wake up and its over. i fall asleep for maybe 20 minutes the rest of the night. I'm usually up at 4:30, but have gotten used to it at this point.

Dude. I'm in the same boat. I woke up Saturday morning at 3:31 am and could not go back to sleep to save my ass. I normally don't have a problem going to sleep but I've been waking up at crazy hours and can't get back to sleep. Same thing...my brain goes to what's wrong or could go wrong in my world and I can't turn it off. I just took a valium to see if that'll maybe take the edge off the worries tonight.

That might be the problem. the shit on my mind has caused me not to really laugh at anything, even shit I know is funny. Maybe a smile here or there but thats it.

The last night I got pretty good sleep was Thursday night, which was also the last time I really laughed and had a good time

I have the same issues (coupled with anxiety attacks at times). It sucks because just when I think I have it under control it comes back.

Here's some tips I use:
-Be in your Bed only too sleep. Don't hang out and listen to your iPod or use your laptop there.

-If you don't fall asleep in 1 hour get up and do something else. Reading is better then Internet or TV (less stimulation to the eyes). If you stay in bed too long not sleeping that dives you crazier.

-Someone said the no caffinee thing, thats true also.

-Re-Regiment your sleep time. Mark a time, whatever it is, and go to bed every night at that time. If you wake up after 3 hours and can't go back push through the day and go back to bed at the same time.

-Good Luck, I'm 28 next month and have been dealing with this for about 7 years already.

i know u don't want meds but they have natural sleeping pills. usually whenever i take something, i can sleep for 15 hrs and wake up and feel exhausted. it's 1:40 right now and i have work at 7 am so im probably not the one that should be giving you advice on sleep. so goodnight.

Melatonin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin) might be an option for you (if some of the helpful things above dont work). I used to take 3-6mg an 30-45 min before bed. Its naturally occurring in your body and the stuff you buy at any pharmacy is naturally derived (not sure if its derived or synthesized). I really never have any trouble sleeping, waking up is the hardest part. I have thought about some crazy Rune Goldberg contraption with bowling balls on ramps and the whole lot with the capper being a bucket of water being dumped on me (sounds good enough, but I dont recover well when I wake up in a pissy mood).

I have thought about the possibility of where your eyes roll affecting sleep. I normally roll mine up towards my eye sockets, which produces a nice dark black effect. As a kid, I remember seeing kaleidoscope/"flying through space" images when I was trying to sleep and vivid dreams would soon follow (not so much anymore). I have tried a few times recently to recapture that kaleidoscope thing with some success but I never remember to do it over a long period of time. Its something I want to toy around with more though.

Body position helps too. I sleep best on my stomach with folded arms for a pillow (helps digestion I think(lighten the load in the morning and away you go)), sometimes I just keep changing every 10 minutes if I can't sleep.

If anxiety is the main problem, the book reading idea might help best, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind kind of brain warp.
