Oscar Mayer has died. The retired chairman of the famous Madison hot dog and lunch meat company passed away this week in Fitchburg at a hospice care unit.
Oscar Mayer has died. The retired chairman of the famous Madison hot dog and lunch meat company passed away this week in Fitchburg at a hospice care unit. He was 95.
He was the third Oscar Mayer in a family which founded the company that bore his name.
His father, Oscar G. Mayer Sr., died in 1965.
And his grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, passed away in 1955.
Mayer retired as the company’s board chairman in 1977 when he was 62.
The firm had just recorded its first year with $1 billion in sales.
Oscar Mayer was later sold to General Foods, and is now a part of Philip Morris.
