A 3 alarm fire on the Throgs Neck Bridge this morning will likely fuck up traffic for a while.
Apparently a construction/repainting accident involving a tarp or curtin caught fire and ignighted the fammable steel if the bridge.
More news as they report it.

Guess that's why the Whitestone Bridge was so packed this morning.

glad i heard the report this morning before I reached the Grand Central...took the RFK and made it without problems.

on a side note, the Throgs Neck is a fucking mess these days. The Bronx bound merge from the Cross Island onto the bridge is an accident waiting to happen everyday. Lanes just merge out of nowhere and the signs all say different things about which lanes merge. But starting the 16th that ramp will be closed for a while anyway.

Did anyone else call this the Frogs Neck Bridge?
When we were kids heading out to Sag Harbor we'd go over the Throgs Neck and giggle like mental patients to the point that my dad started going over the Whitestone instead.

Well, it gets flammable when it gets old and dried out. Steel goes up like a tinder boc, and since its not abywhere near water and we haven't had any rain in hours, its an inferno ready to happen. That's why they don't want you tossing cigarette butts out the windows.

Steel does not become more flammable as it gets older. Steel also does not "dry out" but cheaper steel can become a bit more brittle. What may be flammable is the paint used in the past, or any number of other things.

this woulda freaked Fez out.

I've gone over that bridge thousands of times; luckily not today.

If you are going from Queens to Bronx, you can make easy change to Whitestone (although traffic); if you are on Bronx side and don't know it will really screw you up.

I was coming home from upstate once and tried to cross the Whitestone bridge when it was shut for a Bomb Scare. damn traffic nightmare.

Now we just need to burn down the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Midtown Tunnel, Queensboro Bridge, Triborough Bridge, Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Whitestone Bridge, and Williamsburg Bridge plus blow up the Port Jeff Ferry, and we have them trapped on their own little island like they always wanted

My brother works at the throgs neck bridge, he's a bridge and tunnel officer, he had to redirect traffic to the whitestone. He says that they may open 1 lane on the side that's closed right now.. I'll let you guys know if you guys are interested.
