There have been an awful lot of deadly plane crashes recently.

Today on CNN there is a story about an Iranian passenger plane with fatalities.

An Iranian airliner which crashed Wednesday killing all 168 passengers and crew plunged into the ground and disintegrated on impact, according to a security official. (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/07/15/iran.plane.crash/index.html)

I've been thinking the same thing, it freaks me out. And there doesn't seem to be just more crashes, but more incidents. Like a Southwest flight a few days ago had a tiny hole rip into the roof mid flight. No one was hurt and it didn't keep ripping off but they lost pressure and needing oxygen masks until they made an emergency landing.

I wonder if all the planes are just getting older and this is either wear and tear or they're trying to push so many flights through that the inspections are just glanced over. I'm sure grounding a plane for maintenance, etc. is really expensive.

i wouldn't be surprised if this was related to cut backs with mechanics or some such thing with the airlines.

probably getting by with the bare minimum like most businesses these days.

Exactly what I was thinking. Likely, the planes are showing signs of fatigue from age and it is easier to recondition a plane versus building a new one.

So, now we are starting to see a lot of similarly aged planes have problems around the same time.

I hate hearing news of any plane crash. My father was killed in one 27 years ago when I was just a baby. So reading any story really hits home. I always think about all the other people who are affected by such tragic events.

I hate to fly but don't let it inhibit travelling. I'm just a nervous fucking wreck when the plane starts to descend and the landing because that is when it happened on my fathers flight.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. It's a wonder you can fly, I don't know how I would handle that. :(
