i just looked on ticketmaster and you can get a yankee ticket for todays game 5th row behind home plate still...
for $900 plus taxes and handling.
Why no day of the game discount? The game is in 3 hours. Who the fuck is gonna buy that ticket for that price from now til the start of the game???

Seriously, a lot of these teams have instituted these sliding scale for tickets, where more "attractive" games are more expensive then less attractive one...it should go both ways. Obviously those tickets are not attractive to anyone...slash the price.

Not necessarilly true.
Look at flights and hotel rooms. If you know demand is shitty, yes, you can wait until the last minute and get a steal. But if you try and get a room in Times Square on New Year's Eve last minute thinking you are going to get a cheap room, you'll be shit out of luck.
The problem with those last minute yankee tickets was they were out of any sane person's price range. I bet any ticket less than $500 was sold for these games long ago...

Leeder,
Just go to stubhub for yank tix last minute. With the print at home features now available, people who actually own those tix (some are surely people selling corp tix they get their hands on as well) will sell as a much reduced price to salvage some money at all.
For example, I landed nice seats behind 3rd base in the Jays's series this year at under $100 a piece. At the same exact time I bought them (2 days before the game), the same exact seats were selling for about $330 on the yank site itself. I'm sure I could have landed even better deals if I was willing to wait longer, but I wanted to sure these tix up.
The yanks and some other teams have raised ticket prices so high these days that sites where people used to bring in excessive amounts over the ticket's value, now use it to get SOME money back.
