Serious question - do you picture yourself being very old, dying relatively young, or being somewhere in the middle when you pass on?

I guess I'm asking for a gut feeling mixed with family and/or personal medical history.

genetically speaking, i should be around for a while

Realistically speaking, based on lifestyle choices, not so much.

My father's father lived to be 99
His mother lived to be 93
My mother's parents punched out in their 60's but they were raging alcoholics.
Since I'm a recovering alcoholic you can probably split the difference.
Unless I fall asleep at the wheel and drive my truck into a canyon.

I expect to live til about 75, hopefully 80, right around the statistical range. Had a bum mitral valve so may have to shave the point spread a bit.

I'll die at 71...

well actually I don't know, my grandma died in her 70s and could have lived longer if she was treated earlier for her diabetes.. my grandpa is strong as a bull and survived heart attacks and a stroke, even sending the paramedics away... he is in his late 80's now. Both my mom and dad are in their 50's and fairly healthy so based on that I hope they will live long and stay healthy till the end.

For some odd reason I always pictured myself going at 81 or 82.

I think that's long enough.

Ha! I suppose so.

Hopefully I won't have regrets or feel unfulfilled at that stage of the game, but perhaps you're right. Maybe we always feel there is still more we'd like to do.

In all honesty I dont think I'll be around that long. I dont have the worst life style im 26 and stay fit, but for some reason I really dont think I'll be an elderly guy. To be completely honest, im not sure I want to be one. I figure I'll hang out for a while and then something will happen that will cause me to check in my 50's.

I'm absolutely convinced that some people accomplish what they need to out of life and leave early. I am a slow learner and a late bloomer. I expect to be around for a few more decades. I don't think this is necessarily a good thing.

Can't say either way, I've had some friends check out early and I've seen enough weird things to know that some people just keep going.

Just old enough to be a burden on my child. He's 10 months old, so I'm
going to have to hang in there a while.

Actually, the thought occured to me the other day while he was sleeping on
my chest that at some point he is going to be alive and I'm going to be dead. Strange, I never really thought about death before I had a kid.

Honestly don't know. All the old people in my family have died of lung cancer from smoking, or something related to smoking so there's no real expectation on my part of how long i'll be here.

TripleSkeet

For some reason ever since I was a kid I pictured myself hitting 100. Both sides of my family seem to live pretty long. My grandfather died in his mid 80's and he smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years. Both grandmoms are still alive in their 80's also.

Ive had a relatively healthy life with no real problems thank God, yet sometimes I wonder how the hell thats possible considering the lifestyle Ive had.

I'm interested in hearing you expound on this theory, yojimbo.

What is it that you believe we need to accomplish out of life before we go?

Do we have to positively influence a number of others? Change the world for the better in some way?

I have good genetics, mostly but at 35 I have been constantly on multiple medications for 13 years now.

If the mental health does not get me I may just get stomach/esophageal cancer or kill my liver with a combination of medications and alcohol.

my exwife delivered my first child right around the time of Dave and Casey, and from listening to ROn and Fez fuck with dave, I remembered a few things ROn said, and honestly thought these things right when ron cued me to...

1. Ron said something like this, "when you first see your newborn, just think to yourself, that cute little baby will bury you someday"

2. Ron also said, "when you see that kid you will know that you would kill to protect it"

I honestly had both of these things go through my mind in the minutes after my son was delivered.

Judging by my genetics I'm probably croak sometime between 65 and 71. I've had one or two family members make it to 83, but that's a long shot.

on August the 8th. I got a cracked scapula, cracked collar bone, all the ribs on my right side cracked or broken. I needed 46 stitches in my chin, I have 9 cracked or chipped teeth needing 2 root canals, a collapsed lung and glass is still coming out of my scalp. I had an open joint injury to my left elbow requiring it to be opened up further and debris removed, requiring only about thirty stitches not counting the internal ones that dissolve. I was much l luckier than my wife. All her ribs were cracked or broken. Both lungs collapsed and she had to be revived at the accident scene. Her pelvis was broken in 2 places, had a pin in her knee and her ankle was broken. She had a to be on a ventilator during her stay in critical care. She suffered a brain bleed and swollen brain. (mercifully they think there will be no permanent damage) She is trying to learn to stand up and walk again after a month in critical care. I don't know how long I am going to live but I am grateful for every second now and like Warren Zevon said, I am going to "Enjoy every sandwich"
